The Chiefs really let the Vikings off the hook in the first-half and now they're going to pay for it

On Williams long td run you can see hills easy speed. It's crazy how effortlessly he caught up to Williams to escort him into the endzone.

Unless there's a miracle, the Bears just punted their way to a loss. Nagy is literally from the Andy Reid school of coaching...

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Always happy to watch the Vikings lose, but was hoping the Bears would beat the Eagles since they hold a potential tie-breaker over the Packers.

The Packers are having something to say about that.

Missed opportunity to say the least. Lafleur has a lot to learn.

After today's debacle, I still think winning the division is more likely than not, but one and done is quite possible. The NFC field will be loaded with good to great teams, and potentially WC round opponents like the Rams, Vikings, and Seahawks could easily send us home immediately.

The only chance of a sustained playoff run that I see is if Rodgers goes into "God mode" for 3 or 4 games in January. I can't totally discount that possibility, but the defense has proven that it isn't nearly good enough to carry the team against any non-Mitchell Trubisky led teams when Rodgers isn't perfect.

They'll probably be on the road in the second round and that's about as far as I think they'll get. That was my expectation before one bad game at the Chargers.

The Packers need to get Ibraheim Campbell active and insert him into this defense. They are just getting destroyed in the middle of the field. It wasn't a huge sample, but Campbell brought toughness in his time on the defense last year. It may not be much, but we are nearing "grasp at straws" time.

If that's where we're at, this defense sucks.

Looking at the standings today, even at 7-2, the playoffs are not in any way a lock. Seahawks, Vikings, Rams, Panthers all sit as non-division winners at the moment, with 2-3 losses each. Lose to Carolina and it REALLY tightens up. Packers could easily sit 7-4 in a few weeks. McCaffrey is a nightmare. This could be a year where a 10-6 team or two is watching the playoffs.

Most seasons typically look that way at midseason where people start to think that a 10-6 team may be on the outside looking in, but it rarely, if ever, happens.

I agree that McCaffery is obviously a major nightmare going into next week. They are going to have to cater their defensive scheme around stopping him, and probably make Allen play QB to beat them. Even if they do game plan for McCaffery, he's still good enough to beat them. The Packers just have no speed in the middle of the field as long as they stick with Martinez as their every-down MLB. That's why in my opinion they need to get Campbell up and ready to go this week. Campbell is not going to save this defense, but he showed last year that he can run, tackle, and bring a little bit of nasty to a defense that sorely needs it.

How bad must Burks actually be if he can't see the field in this defense?

Most years there isn't a 7-2 team looking at a Wild Card. I doubt Seattle or San Francisco loses 6 games, so that is one WC that is very likely 11-5 and quite possibly better. Wilson is the MVP right now. Also don't get the "rarely if ever" comment - that is just not accurate. It's happened five times since 2010, sometimes more than one team in a season; it's not that rare. The driver is usually one WC team that's really good and forces 3-4 8-10 win teams to duke it out for one WC spot. That is going to happen this year barring an injury in the West.

The defending NFC champ is also 5-3 now. It's still entirely plausible the Packers don't make the playoffs. Especially because they don't even have the benefit of having a cakewalk to a division spot this year.

My bad, you are correct. There have been many more instances of 10-6 teams not making the playoffs than I thought. It seems that 11-5 is more the sure bet for a playoff spot.

Yes, it is entirely possible that the Packers don't make the playoffs, but it would take a pretty big collapse for that to happen. If you figure they have to go 4-3 to assure a playoff spot, that means they have to beat the teams on their schedule they should beat (Giants and Redskins), find a way to slow down McCaffery in Lambeau next weekend, and take 1 of 3 in that NFC North gauntlet to finish the year. That is with chalking up the 49er game as a loss. Of course, if they fall to the Panthers, things start to get much more dicey.

They should make the playoffs and I would bet on it but I don't think it's as secure as one would think at 7-2. Losses to CAR & SF puts Carolina level with them and SF probably out of reach. Then you still have the Rams, Seahawks, potentially Dallas/Philly. This is all to say the Packers really do need to win their division.

I would bet on a 10-6 team missing the NFC playoffs.

Lazard had 25 snaps against the Chargers vs. Kumerow’s 13. It appears Lazard is now the no. 4 WR.

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Lazard was soon the #2. He seems to me the only receiver Rodgers trusts other than Adams.

Allison will be a FA again next year. I doubt he’s back.

The receiver room will probably look like:

1) Adams
2) Valdez-Scantling
3) Lazard
4) Kumerow
5) *Rookie*

Then either St. Brown, Shepherd, or a UDFA surprise.

I really hope the WR room doesn’t look like that next year. Not much they can do this year but these guys aren’t good enough.

I don't think it's that simple. Part of it is scheme, and part of it is having a QB that doesn't trust the guys at the position. So much of that offense's production is predicated on receivers knowing where to go to find an open spot when Rodgers scrambles and comes out of the pocket. Guys like Nelson, Cobb and James Jones just had that innate ability to find an open window for Rodgers to get them the ball. This new crew, especially MVS, hasn't found that ability yet. We are starting to see it more with Lazard ... which is why I think we're going to see him become the de facto #2 WR through the rest of the year. Rodgers seems to trust him, and looks for him when plays are breaking down. When was the last time you say MVS catch an outlet pass? I LOVE MVS's potential, but he's still so green.
