What is up with DPJ? Must be something beyond his lack of production

What a debbie downer draft. Pretty much killing any interest I had in sports returning...living without them is honestly a lot easier than I would have thought in February.

Consequently, both CBSSports and the Athletic had him as a 6.

DJP to the Browns.
Would have preferred KJ Hill in that case..

At this point I don't really care if they take a WR or not. Can't expect a 5th rounder to come in and be a difference maker next year.

I think the Eagles got a steal in Hightower who could come in and be a difference maker at WR. He is probably more of a gadget player next year until he puts on some more weight but he is someone that I believe people will say why did he get drafted in the 5th round in 2-3 years.

I can't believe with as big of a need as WR was for us (and now still is), we managed to let the first 5 rounds of the most WR talent rich draft in history pass us by without getting one.

IMHO, if ESB and MVS were holdovers from the Thompson regime and not Gute's first draft, we would have drafted replacements for at least one of them.

Hoping for CB Luq Barcoo simply because of his name. Everybody will want a Barcoo jersey!

Hey, they took Runyan! Good pick!

Like I said earlier, he's the type who they can plug in at guard and not worry for years. Might be able to play tackle as well.

Haha. That's what I said too.

Runyan's fine. Good pick. I just wish my favorite pick so far wasn't a guard in the 6th round.

I kinda get the feeling people are eventually going to really like the Dillon pick the best. He's the type of runner that can piled up yards. Not the type that will have a very long career, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was an All-Pro level RB for a few seasons.

Info from Dane Brugler:

SUMMARY: A two-year starter at Michigan, Runyan lined up at left tackle in offensive coordinator Josh Gattis’ spread, pro-style scheme. As the son of a 14-year pro who was once the highest-paid lineman in the NFL, he was groomed in the sport and became a student of the game. Runyan rarely wastes time searching due to his understanding of protections and pass rush angles, recognizing moves to escort rushers wide of the pocket. However, he can be stressed by high-level speed and he is more of a pusher than drive blocker in the run game. Overall, Runyan was a model of consistency as the Wolverines’ left tackle, but his average feet, length and play strength will be tougher to disguise in the NFL, projecting best at guard.

GRADE: 6th-7th Round

Obviously they feel they addressed the need of WR enough with signing Funchess and riding the other guys they already have on the roster. It is going to be a different offense moving forward. It intrigues me, to say the least.

I can't imagine OJ Howard will be back in Tampa. Maybe we're going to swing something for him for Jamaal Williams and a 2021 4th. That would reconcile the Dillon pick and lack of a receiver taken much better.

I'm hoping we're eventually going to really like the Love pick the most. If not, I'm not sure any of the rest of it will matter much, to tell you the truth. So much on the line with that one.

I think they want to mirror what San Fran does and have 3 backs that could carry the load. Ride the hot hand. Lafleur said as much at one of his press conferences this offseason.

Yeah, obviously [wink]

I was talking more immediate gratification. I expect Dillon to have a major role in the 2020 offense.

In theory, with WR being a really deep position it would stand to reason that pushes guys that would be ranked higher in normal years to the UDFA pool, so I'd expect we'll see a bunch of those types added after the draft. Very well could have been Gute's strategy on the position from the beginning.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Packers grab DT Raequan Williams from Michigan State with one of their next two picks. Fits the size and athletic profile they typically look for with their 3-4 DEs.
