I wonder if there's a bigger desire to re-sign Bakh just on the idea of having a likely HOFer play his whole career in GB.

I think that’s a tiny intangible that probably doesn’t factor a whole lot into the actual decision. I’m pretty confident they’ll extend Bakhtiari, but I’m prepared to move on from Jones, Linsley, and King. Realistically, I think they can only sign one of those ‘Big 4’ free agents. They’ll likely need to cut and re-structure just to keep one.

You're probably right, unless two of them are willing to be cap friendly early in the contract. I think it'd be really hard to move on from Bakh or Linsley just because both are performing so well as part of a good o-line. But the Packers have had a lot of success plugging seemingly random guys into the interior o-line without much drop off when it seems like quality guys do leave (Sitton, Lang, etc.). Ideally, I'd like to see the Packers move on from Kirksey/Preston Smith, and use $10m of that cap savings on Bakh and Linsley, then address LB hard in the draft, along with CB. Sounds like Josh Jackson is starting on Sunday, so we should be able to get a better/longer evaluation of him as a potential option there as well.

Frankly, as a 5th round pick, Linsely himself was originally the "seemingly random guy" plugged in when Tretter was injured and he never looked back. We seem to be able to find centers like that pretty easily all the way back to good ole' bag-o-donuts Frankie Winters.

I think Bahk is both the priority and the player more likely to sign a team-friendly deal for 2021 at least. They'll need some cap maneuverability, and it seems plausible that he'll accept a deal that may be more roster bonus heavy than base heavy. Jones is more likely to want to get paid, as he should considering the current lifespan of a NFL RB.

Very much agreed on Linsley- not sure how they'd be able to keep him, but I'd love it if they do. He's been rock solid in the middle for them.

King, meh. I love his potential, and the idea of having two pretty solid corners (with Jaire obviously MORE than solid), but you have to stay on the field to do so. If they can bring him back cheap, sure. But they can't commit large dollars in a cap crunch year to a guy that just doesn't contribute every week since he's on the sideline so much.

I don't even know what is cheap for King. I have a good idea what Linsley will get(10+ per year), we know Bahk would get ~20 million or so, Jones is probably getting market value at 5/65. But what does King get? Maybe a transition tag? I don't know, Sullivan is a really nice corner, but I think he's found a niche role as a big slot corner. I like having two guys on the outside who can make plays but I wouldn't be surprised if he got anywhere from 5-6 million a year to 12-13 million a year. Just...zero clue on what the market will be for him.

I don't see how it's possible to move on from Bahk. Yosh may yet develop into an NFL tackle, but I don't want to see him starting next year and that's not a position you can screw around with. But we do have options at center. I wonder if Jenkins is still considered a center long term. It'd be more valuable than either guard position. Of course that monster can play any position on the OL. We've developed depth there.

I wonder if they would cut Preston after just two years? My guess is that they'd at least be able to get a pick for him...and probably a pretty solid one. But if you're going to be dropping him more in coverage, it doesn't make a ton of sense to be paying him like a elite edge rusher. I'd still like to hold onto him, but...a 27 year old who'd only cost a team acquiring him ~17 million or so the next two seasons. I don't know what that could do there. I'd feel a lot better if Gary continued to impressed and racked up double digit sacks this year.

Looking ahead, it'd should be a really good year to have extra picks. There are a lot of unknowns, but there are also inevitably going to be some gems who would have been "late risers" who don't rise because they don't play this year or they didn't play much. And for arguably the best team in the NFC, the Packers have a lot of needs. Obviously there is higher risk, but with the extra picks, worth it.

Can we bring the conversation about Packers players back to the Packers thread?

It’s to the point I’m hoping the Vikings win. They don’t need a top 5 pick to accelerate the rebuild.

As long as they don't get Trevor Lawrence I'm not too concerned about that.

EDIT: I see Cousins threw an interception on his first pass.

And then he threw more interceptions.

Part of me thinks it’s prudent to root for the Vikings in case the season is shortened due to COVID and strength of schedule becomes a critical tie breaker for playoff position.

They stink, that's what happens when you throw elite money at an average QB. I think a lot of people just assumed the defense would still be good even with the FA losses and while the injuries to Hunter and Barr(yes!) have hurt you still have to think this may be it for Zimmer. He has been there a while now and sometimes you need to move on even with a good coach. I hope they go 1-15.

The Vikings’ day of reckoning was coming. They spent a lot of money to keep their defense together and it was only a matter of time before they had to either let good players go in free agency or cut & gut. Of course the situation was exasperated by paying top dollar for Cousins, but that’s not how they got in this jam. They have $21 million in dead cap space this year and are projected to be $8 million over next year’s cap.

The Bungles squandered a 21-0 lead and lose.

Almost half way through the season:

Every team in the NFC East has a negative scoring differential. Also the Jets have a -110 scoring differential. Not sure how that is possible but it is. In the NFC East you could see a 6 or 7 win team make the playoffs.

The strongest division by far is the NFC West if you are looking at purely point differential. Unless the Packers or the Bears completely stumble the NFC North is the clear favorite right now to be the #1 seed.

The AFC looks to be stacked with good teams the NFC looks to be stacked with average to above average teams. The Steelers, Ravens, Chiefs and Titans look to be really good teams. I think the Bills are just an above average team.

If an NFC team wants to win the Super Bowl they will have to be rooting for the Bills as I don't see an NFC team beating the Chiefs, Steelers or Ravens. The Titans maybe but they are a hard team to gauge. I think they are a really good team but they are one of the really good teams an NFC team could surprise and knock off. The Chiefs and Ravens remind me of the Cowboys and 49ers of the 90's.

Although funny, it’s probably best for Burrows to do as much losing as he can this season. Get the higher picks and her rebuild. He doesn’t have much around him to help.

Over/under on wins for the NFC East champion at 6.5

I mean, what was the plan on offense? McCarthy might want to take that over. Looking like an awful game plan so far.

The plan in GB was "let Aaron Rodgers do stuff". Seemed to be working for Dak too. Not so much with Andy.
