Not sure if it belongs here or the Off Topic COVID thread.

This certainly is major news. I'm still undecided if it's best to re-open schools at the beginning of the term, but that's another discussion. The Big Eight Conference will not have in-conference competitions this fall.

And the big 8 and cannot hold in person practices. Basically means no fall sports for big 8.

I really hope that if a fall season is lost that they don’t try to cram it in the spring.

I dont think they will cancel fall sports. They basically said if they dont run it someone else will, and they won't use as strong of guidelines.

My thoughts as well. I was envisioning the various coaching associations running their own version of state meets.

Reminds me back when I did the 2007 Boston Marathon. As a 'noreaster was wrecking havoc on New England, the race committee behind the scenes was thinking of canceling (not revealed to the public until a year later) due to standing water and possible down power lines, but went ahead due to "everyone would have shown up and run anyways".

Well, the Woodland Conference has pushed back Football and Boys Soccer to the spring. Since the traditional Woodland Conference is split up for Football (Woodland and Parkland), the Parkland will be playing in fall for now.

Here is a link to a worksheet that is, I think, updated by the WIAA or by Wissports.net:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rUPHtu-DaR99M-8XO3WUQxj18mohrpXb06AjR6z1tRw/edit#gid=0

My son was told that he will be able to play both football and baseball this spring. I don't know how that is going to work. If baseball carries over into summer, he will be playing with his summer academy team instead of the high school team.

Baseball isn’t pushed back really. The reg. season stops on May 31 and doesn’t start until mid-April. If he’s playing spring football, he will overlap three weeks of the baseball season. Two of which are competition weeks leaving him with only four weeks for baseball. The WIAA took and push the importance of football over everything else with this decision and now spring sports along with a shortened winter season get jobbed again.

The WIAA's calendar has baseball starting April 12 and ending June 30. That's starting at least 3 weeks later. From what I've heard there probably won't be a post season or state tournament which tells me conference schedules will go into June.

The AD I talked to last week said they weren't expecting any post season. Maybe that's changed since then.

I had a different message from my AD but this is all changing quickly. So who knows.

Even the fall tournaments are still scheduled as of now, although football only has a 2 week window. The WIAA said they would announce a decision on each tournament at least 30 days prior to its start.

In reality I think fall and winter tournaments have zero chance of occurring. Spring is way to far out to know, but I think they have a better chance being outdoors and non-contact.

Also, I saw a footnote in a results section that apparently Waukesha County schools cannot compete against schools from outside the county.

Low risk sports are still going on for Beaver Dam, but high risk sports were put on hold. Tennis had their first match on Thursday.

My oldest son is a 6th grader this year, and is running middle school Cross Country. He's got his first race on Thursday. He attended a race yesterday, but it was only for high school runners.

We’re still waiting if our middle school is doing cross country. They haven’t made a decision yet, or at least told anybody if they’re cancelling it. Our high school is having cross country though.

Depends on the school. Some are postponing till spring. Otherwise fall is starting a couple weeks later. I think it's pretty likely the fall season gets cancelled at some point though. If not because of mass school closures then due to the logistics of some schools getting shut down for a few weeks and the scheduling logistics just being impossible.

Practice can start Sept 7th.

The conference were in is staying fall. North of GB you might as well get what you can out of fall. The spring football season would start March 1st. Our field would be snow covered yet, then a mud pit for a few weeks. Spring football is unrealistic up here. We will go practice, weight room, inter-squad scrimmages, heck even flag 7 on 7 before moving to spring.

I don't understand how spring football can even be considered. Unless you have a turf field you'll be playing in mud and totally destroy a grass field playing in spring.
