Great article about the making of the classic "Bull Durham."

http://sportsrip2.blogspot.com/2017/06/ ... portsREDEF

Hard to believe it was made 29 years ago.

The article is from Paul Devlin, who worked on the film and appeared as one of the players (he played a couple of years of minor league ball and is now a sports film maker).

It's a pretty awesome story.

Watched Corey Hart's Wall of Fame ceremony. It was very nice. Touching to see how choked up he got about the Brewers.

Haven't seen the video but managers Dave Roberts and Andy Green started a bench clearer.

Looking at the Cubs box score today and other than Jay, they don't have anyone in their lineup over .265

We better start the return thread in the proposals forum.

“There's a fine line between being confident and cocky, or overconfident. This is an extremely humbling game. But if you don't believe in yourself, no one else is going to believe in you.”

Maybe Lucroy will want to come to Milwaukee so he can finally play for a contender.

Trying to determine another "contender" that would want him...
List of possible destinations appears rather small. The big markets are all filled & he is having a sub-optimal year this season (offensively & defensively).

Cleveland is a solid "NO" at this point. Having Francisco Mejia in the wings for later in 2018/ 2019 is preferable..
Maybe Colorado or Arizona...
Perhaps Minnesota for next season & moving forward...

Lucroy has been crap this year offensively and defensively (for his standards). Factor in him being a free agent and almost certainly testing the market and the Rangers are getting peanuts back for him.

When you're leading the division and players are having good years, you start to get the national columnists to take note:

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/keri-the-10-get-thames-to-wwe-dodgers-hotter-than-the-sun-and-more-mlb-notes/

No ground breaking content, but it's nice to see the Brewers mentioned.

Nice Brewer mention and right on. Thanks for posting. I like seeing national sports outlets recognizing the team.

This story claims pitchers throw too many fastballs. The Yankees are using a strategy of using more sliders and fewer fastballs. Interesting.

It will also be interesting to see what the toll this strategy takes on Yankees pitchers' elbows going forward. They did just lose Pineda for a year to have TJ surgery

This has been a trend around baseball all year. Everyone throws 95+ now. And any major league hitter can catch up to now. A big fastball just isn't as big of a deal as it was before so teams are having their pitchers throw more breaking balls and generally to greater success. Certainly it has to be part of the reason Suter has been so successful so far. Hitters just don't see fastballs as slow as his and it takes a while for them to get it timed.

AS much as I hate to say this about the Cubs but this was a great thing to do. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2724861-steve-bartman-will-receive-2016-cubs-world-series-ring

Side note: I was going to say classy but that word is forever tainted. [smile]

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

I was reading an article about Josh Hader on JSOnline and it said that he wasn't able to wear 17 so he went with 71. The Brewers haven't retired 17 and Gantner hasn't played in forever so why can't he wear it?

Q. Your uniform number is 71, which is also unique in the major leagues. You’re only the second 71 in Brewers history as well (Scott Linebrink, 2007). But 17 is the number you’ve had for most of your career previously. It’s not retired in Milwaukee, but it won’t be issued anytime soon, either, because it belonged previously to Jim Gantner. Have you ever talked to him about it?
A. I’ve never talked to him about the number situation. I’m sure maybe he heard something. But it’s a number. If I could get it, I’d get it.

Rock was talking about this during a game a couple weeks ago. The Brewers won't give it out because of Gantner. This organization really needs to get over 1982.
