Webb will be in the squad for tomorrow. Blazek option to AAA, and Phillips called up.

Tough to find anything to attack when you're the Clayton Kershaw of message board posters. [wink]

Seriously though, I'm a bit irrationally worried that Cooper is going to come to MLB and just rake, but I get the deal. Webb has the chance to at least wind up as a solid LOOGY now and going forward, which would be a nice asset to have down the stretch.

With Cooper behind Thames and Aguilar, a decision was going to have to be made about him before the year ends one way or another. Apparently, this was his value.

You have to give up something to get something. Cooper was a fairly high price to pay for a 27 AAA guy but the Brewers needed a LOOGY and this seems like a quality guy for a reasonable price.

Bullpen guys are not a dime a dozen, they are highly, some might say over, coveted.

Let's beat those Cubs!

Trying to showcase Phillips by bringing him up?

The thing i like about this trade is if Webb does become a quality bullpen arm, we have him controlled a long time vs trading for some veteran on say a one or two year deal.

Tyler Webb also appeared in the most recent Baseball America Prospect Handbook, he was listed as the #30 prospect in the Pirates organization (who held his rights following the Rule 5 draft).

Here is the Baseball America Prospect Handbook scouting report...

Tyler Webb, LHP

Webb's four years at South Carolina were filled with highlights. He was a contributor as a freshman and sophomore on the Gamecocks' back-to-back national championship teams and finished his career with a dominant senior season as closer. The Yankees selected him in the 10th round in 2013 and signed him for just $30,000. Webb carved up batters in the low minors and succeeded at Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as well. The Pirates selected Webb in the 2016 Rule 5 draft, and he was one of four players the Yankees lost in the draft. He will be looking to make the Pirates roster as a matchup reliever after holding Triple-A lefthanders to a sub-.600 OPS in back-to-back seasons. His fringe-average slider dives away from lefties effectively. His below-average change up gives him something to toss up against righthanders, but he's best in left-on-left matchups.

Also, an interesting albeit meaningless side note... according to Tyler Webb he had never attended a professional sporting event of any kind (i.e. MLB, NFL, etc.) when he was called up to the Yankees earlier this season. It has to be an strange feeling when the first time in your life you are present at a Major League Baseball game you are suited up for one of the teams.

Ty Webb, Noonan, and Wang! What a foursome with Rodney Dangerfield, the second funniest man ever (next to Don Rickles).

Agreed. It would be tough to find flaws in this trade despite giving up a real prospect.

The math says if we play 500 ball the rest of the way, the Cubs have to play 580 ball. That means the division is viable. If this guy can help, he was worth Cooper.

I think this trade is smart for both teams - I don't see why anyone would disagree.

I'm glad the Brewers did it.

There will be no personal attacks. Period. Follow the rules or you'll be suspended or banned. There's been a lot of snark and condescending stuff going around recently. Please stop. Be civil, accept opposing opinions as a part of life, or post elsewhere:

What kind of discussion is allowed?

Discussion about baseball, and especially about the Milwaukee Brewers, is encouraged.

In all subforums, our goal is to maintain a civil and mature posting environment, where the discussion is thoughtful, substantive, and respectful.

What kind of discussion is not allowed?

Condescending talk toward other posters (including but not limited to name-calling, baiting and flaming) is not allowed. Other Brewers-related message boards are more tolerant of "talking smack" to other users, and we suggest you go there if that's what you're about.

(I'm not calling out anyone in particular even though I quoted two posters. This is a general warning to play nice. Thanks!)

Touché! But this expression means exactly what people think it means irrespective of what logic says. Therefore, I could care less [smile]

Not surprising that Stearns is taking the initial approach of trolling the bottom of the pitching market. Will admit to being surprised that the trolling went all the way down to AAA.

Looking forward to seeing Webb. Looks like he was doing pretty well against righties this year. At 26 years old, he should be ready to go. I didn't see much of a reason to hold onto Cooper any longer, especially if Stearns now considers Aguilar an unmovable piece due to his bench bat and plus-insurance at first base. Cooper was blocked here and despite the good AAA numbers, I don't think his value was high enough to hold onto and hope the team could use him as a key third or fourth piece in another trade down the road.

I think Cooper will be a 270/330/750 type player. Plenty good to be a solid contributor to a team. And if he can hit both lines at Yankee Stadium he get some additional HR

I think DS is showing that he thinks about all phases of the system when everyone else is focused on MLB level only. Certainly Webb might impact the MLB level this year, but if not then probably soon. I like how he looks to add whenever he has a chance.

Agreed. This is almost exactly Overbay's career numbers. (266/347/429/776)

Webb's splits vs. LHP the last 3 years are promising in the minors, the highest OPS against him by lefties waa .559. He should and probably will be used as a LOOGY.

How anyone could criticize this is beyond me. A few here sound like they'd never be capable of trading a player in the minors who is putting up numbers no matter their age. Some have even suggested we trade the similar player who is actually putting up numbers in the MAJORS. The whole point of this thing is to acquire as much talent as possible so that you can trade from depth. You can't play them all. And if you can't ever stomach parting with them via trade you start losing some of them for nothing.

When you have this kind of depth at a position, it's nearly like trading nothing for something. And that's exactly how you draw up a perfect scenario. Trade from excess at one spot to shore up another. Cooper had no spot on the big club and either he would have taken someone else's spot on the 40-man soon or would have been lost for nothing in the rule 5.

Some here seem they will never be happy with anything. This is about as easy a trade to make as it gets.

Completely forgot that they also have Wang. Amazing. "Hey Wang, what's with the pictures? It's a parking lot!"

Edit: Btw....I know...Wang in the Brewers org. is not pronounced the same. Still..
