I would be a bit surprised if any of our 6 remaining players didn't reach an agreement today.

MLBTraderumors snippet on Knebel:

Corey Knebel and the Brewers settled on a one-year, $5.125MM salary for the upcoming season, tweets Murray. The right-hander is in his second trip through arbitration as a Super Two player and had been projected at $4.9MM. He’s controlled through the 2021 season.

[I am very surprised that he was non-tendered, given how the Brewers like to play matchups, and the dearth of lefty relievers currently available but on the roster and in the upper minors. Right now not only is Hader the only non-injured lefty on the active roster, ...

It wouldn't surprise me to see them go after a lefty starter, and at least 1-2 lefty relief arms, along with several minor league free agent NRI-types. If I'm a lefty reliever looking for a job, the Brewers have to be a prime candidate.

I hope the goal is to find something better and not to go into the season with 11 RHP's on the roster. I can understand why they'd want lots of relievers who can go multiple innings, and I can see the logic in saving a roster spot for guys with more upside, like Williams. But when all is said and done, if you look up and Hader is the only LHP in the pen, you're going to have a problem with match-ups. Even if every RHP reliever you keep is more valuable than Cedeno in a vacuum, that would constitute failing to see the forest for the trees.

Another thing is that even though you don't get a lot of use out of LOOGY's, just the threat of having one is a factor opponents have to consider when making their lineups. Start the season with a pen of Knebel, JJ, Williams, Barnes, Woodruff, Guerra, and Hader and opponents will have too much freedom in where they put their LHB's in their lineup on those many nights when Hader is unavailable.

I think that's 100 pct backwards. If you keep a soft tossing left handed specialist who can only go 1 hitter at a time in close situations and only gives you 30 innings a year over a hard throwing, far more talented right hander JUST because he's a left hander, that's failing to see the forest for the trees. You keep the more valuable players, the better players. Cedeno is just nothing special. He does his job and he gets out lefties and he's not the type of guy I'm against having, but not at the expense of Taylor Williams...or even Jacob Barnes.

Just seeing this now, but Barnes and Williams are your examples of "FAR more talented right handers"? That doesn't help your case. I definitely prefer a Cedeno over guys like that.

And sorry, but wanting to only have the more talented players regardless of role and match-ups is a textbook example of not seeing the forest for the trees. Really glad they got Claudio.

Shaw and Davies. Davies is a Boras client, so there will certainly be some delusion regarding his value.

Shaw 4.675
Davies 2.6

Both of those were higher than I anticipated.

FWIW here are the estimates from MLBTR. Been mostly in line with the estimates: Overall most came in a bit below that, mainly Shaw, Piña and Guerra.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/10/ ... -2019.html

One that's a bit curious (Since the estimates are normally really good) is that Baez came in $2m below the estimate.

They probably didn’t take into account his elite tagging ability...

Manny Pina's contract includes a 2020 option with a $150k buyout.

Also some incentives:

The team option for 2020 also includes a $150K buyout, pushing Pina’s guaranteed dollar amount to $1.75MM. Incentives could push the value of the deal higher if Pina wins a Gold Glove ($25K), Silver Slugger ($50K), LCS MVP ($25K), World Series MVP ($50K), National League MVP ($100K), or if he earns a trip to the All-Star game ($50K).

Come on! If Manny Pina wins NL MVP he deserves more than a $100k bonus [laughing]

Pina's 2020 team option is for $1.85M. That is a very minimal increase from is 2019 arby salary ($1.6M). I cannot understand why Pina would do this. The 1.6M was actually less than some have predicted so there was no reason to give a team option (at a low value) to get the $1.6M. I suppose he is not expected to get a lot of playing time but still, you would think he could get more than $250k raise in arby next year. He did get some incentives but those are unlikely to be achieved due to his limited playing time.

Odd.

My guess is getting next year fully guaranteed was a big part of it

He's guaranteed only $150k in 2020 for the team buyout.
