Since Max Scherzer's major league debut, he has more 10 strikeout starts than 21 MLB teams.

The Onion hasn't been satire for years now. It's just a cheeky actual news outlet.

Another former Brewer farmhand gets the call...

Astros purchased the contract of RHP Cy Sneed from Triple-A Round Rock.

Sneed, 26, gets the call to replace Framber Valdez, who was sent to Round Rock after another poor start on Wednesday for the Astros. To clear room on the 40-man roster, the Astros moved Joe Smith to the 60-day injured list. On the year, Sneed has a 4.48 ERA with a 59/22 K/BB ratio and 1.17 WHIP over 70 1/3 innings in the Pacific Coast League.

The Orioles are the first team in MLB history to record back to back shutouts and win by at least 13 runs in both games. Of course it would be the Orioles.

Ha, no kidding. Back-to-back 13-0 wins and their run differential now improves to -165 runs on the season.

Today in “That’s so Mets”...

The Mets held a touching tribute to the 1969 Mets team during Saturday’s game. Things got really emotional when they acknowledged the since deceased members of the team. The only problem is two of the guys they included as deceased teammates are very much still alive.

Mets Actually Included 2 Living Former Players in Ode to Deceased Members of 1969 World Series Team

After having hit .247 for the last 4 seasons, Khris Davis now has 741 hits in 2997 ABs, good for a .247247247... repeating BA. Only hitting .240 so far this season, but since the laws of nature can't be altered we know that he'll hit ~.256 the rest of the way.

Lucroy just got destroyed by a horribly illegal slide. Thankfully the run didn't count but Marisnick should get suspended

Lucroy moved to get the ball, the runner couldn't decide which way to go and they collided. Absolutely no way he should be suspended. It looked terrible but there was no malicious intent.

Ya, not quite. Lucroy moved to get the ball, the runner couldn't decide which way to go and they collided. Absolutely no way he should be suspended.

Are you kidding? The contact was a good 2 feet inside the base line and he lowered his shoulder. Marisnak looked like a safety hitting a WR over the middle back in 2002. He should get a severe suspension.

Marisnick had a clear path to the plate and instead stepped inside and just destroyed Lucroy. He should be suspended.

Watch his feet. He was going to slide one way then decided to change direction and then changed direction again while attempting to slide head first. The throw took Lucroy into the path he eventually decided to go. He "lowered his shoulder" because he was sliding head first. And if you watch his upper half, you'll see he tried to avoid a collision right before they collide so his top and bottom are going in different directions. Was it stupid and a really bad attempt, absolutely. But there was no intent to truck him, just weird baseball stuff.

The path he took was one where he wouldn't even be able to reach the plate. He was so far inside he had to come back and touch home plate after he knocked out Lucroy. And in what universe shoudl a runner be sliding to the inside of the plate? Catchers are now trained to set up in front of the plate for a sweep tag. 99% of the time, the runner should be sliding on the outside of the plate. I've watched this over and over, it doesn't at all look like he tried to avoid collision or let up at all. He juked inside at the last second to truck Lucroy. Dirty dirty dirty.

Talk about distorting reality. Go to the link below and scroll down to the video - the still pic on the left side of the video tells you everything you need to know and how absolutely wrong you are.

https://deadspin.com/jake-marisnick-sho ... 1836180059

Catchers set up in front of the plate, meaning the runner has a clear path to run straight through the plate if running on the baseline chalk itself. That's what Lucroy did. When he parted from his initial positioning not only did he move up the line but also away from the line toward the middle of the field. Marisnick was running on the inside of the chalk line from the jump.
Now go back and look at the pic I mentioned above - the ball isn't even to Lucroy yet and Marisnick not only took a step to the outside, where the direct open path was, but he then shifted back to the inside to dive directly at Lucroy who already shifted even more inside toward the middle of the field. At NO POINT during the entire play was the path to the backside part of the plate blocked. Marisnick was absolutely seeking contact and without question should be suspended. I won't say he was intentionally trying to hurt Lucroy because I don't think he was based on his reaction but his intent in seeking contact was clear as day. Shockingly bad baserunning on display there as well given he never he looked to see where the ball was then jumped backed toward the guy trying to catch the ball to tag him out.

You are blind. [laughing]

Lucroy is moving away from the plate which gives Marisnick that much more of a clear path than he already had and instead of taking it he decides to change his path and truck Lucroy. It's a completely dirty play.

I think it was an accident.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

In these types of situations, I always feel like an eye for an eye is best. Not that someone should concuss Marisnack, but he should be out until Lucroy returns. That won't happen though, Marisnack will get probably 5-6 game suspension and Lucroy will miss a few weeks or more. And he's also that much closer to not being able to catch anymore as concussions tend to rack up at the position.
