Johnathan Villar hits 6106th MLB HR of the season to break the all time record.

....unfortunately he was thrown out at home.

I know it was a joke but Villar will score 100 runs on a bad team. He’s stolen 33 bases and been thrown out 8. Has had 30 doubles, 4 triples and 21 dingers in route to a 4+ WAR season. What an absolute whiff on our front office and CC last year to trade this guy for what they did.

"I'm not as good as I was but in big moments I'm still the guy. I want that opportunity." -Ryan Braun

Yea, it is frustrating, but it seemed like he fell out of favor with CC, so perhaps Stearns was just trying to get anything for him? But yes, not a great trade on Stearns part. Oh well, moving forward.

Villar is having a nice year for a horrible team. Certainly not the first time a guy has fallen out of favor for a contender, went to a bad team and excelled. No idea if he would have put up the same kind of numbers with this current version of the Brewers, because baseball isn't played in a vacuum. I can tell you that if Villar was still on this team, Moustakas likely wouldn't be. Also, there's really no place for Villar to play, unless he was going to supercede Arcia as the team's everyday SS.

Good take.
Dumb Dumb on the basepaths, sealed his fate with this team. Water under the bridge.

Surprised this hasn't been brought up about the Brave's Charlie Culberson taking a pitch to the face while trying to bunt. The pitch was called a ball but was eventually appealed and called a strike by the first base ump. Seems to be a lot of backlash at the Nats for even appealing in that situation which is totally unwarranted as it was an important game between two playoff contenders and you can't just let a call go against your team because you feel bad for a player. I suppose if a runner falls to the ground after tearing his ACL while in a pickle you shouldn't tag him and just let him crawl to a base. Not to mention it was an obvious bunt attempt as Charlie made zero effort to pull his bat back despite the pitch coming straight for his face.

“Pittsburgh Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez is being put on administrative leave by Major League Baseball following his arrest for solicitation of a child, sources tell ESPN.” Jeff Passan

Horrible if true. Alleged girl was 13 years old. I wonder if this held teams back from trading for him?

There are way too many details and way too much of a smoking gun to think he's 100% innocent.

Dude was legit arrested and booked. I tend to lean pretty heavily on the side of letting players play when it comes to off field stuff...but for me, this is one of those things that I can completely understand never letting him play in MLB again...if true of course.

Not only should he never pitch in the bigs again, he should also have one home the rest of his life - prison.

This isnt a story of he said, she said - there is actionable video and phone evidence, otherwise he wouldn't have been brought into custody...throw all the flipping books at him, and mlb should promptly bar him for life.

While a lengthy suspension would be in the works; child pornography, if true, means prison then deportation. What a nightmare season for the Pirates organization. Totally obscuring impressive seasons from a couple rookies in Kevin Newman and Bryan Reynolds.

Certainly makes you now wonder about the nature of that pre-game altercation.

Just read the article on it. Yea this seems like he's caught dead to rights and is done. As he should be, I just don't get what's wrong with these people to do stuff like this. It really shouldn't be that difficult to pick up women when you have 50 mil.

Someone else mentioned the trade deadline and if that was known or rumored then as a factor. Obviously I have no idea, but too bad LAD didn't make the mistake of trading for him. Could really use some breaks to start going against them to bring them down to earth. Then again, it would've helped division rival Pitt so...

I don't think this was known much at all outside of investigators, otherwise the story would have broke long ago. The reason he wasn't dealt at the deadline was how astronomically high the pirates' asking price was for him - particularly because of the 4 yrs of team control. Needless to say, that length of team control looks pretty diminished right now.

He didn't just want a woman. He wanted a child. Like, he isn't mentally right.

Well true I guess, I don't want to get into that discussion. But you know what I meant.

What a horrible, sickening story. It's to the point where I'm pulling for the Pirates to get a win organization-wise. Kinda wish they had dealt Vazquez to the Dodgers for a heap of prospects at the deadline now. I'm sick of the Dodgers winning every move they make, or in this case don't make.

Wow - what a terrible and sickening story. And, while I might regret saying this down the line here - I'm really starting to feel a bit bad for Pirates fans. First of all, they have to live with that STUPID trade that their GM made last summer for Archer, and now this happens just a month or so after they didn't trade one of their few valuable trade pieces at the deadline. Now, they may never see this guy throw another pitch for them again (at least he shouldn't pitch again if MLB knows what's right), and they'll never get any prospect capital for him. Just appears as if this franchise can't buy a break right now - although their GM certainly has done them no favors.
