This is excellent news. Will be tougher for big markets to poach him...

Probably the least surprising news of the offseason. Surprised it took this long.

Also a little surprised that Arnold was not promoted to GM.

I am anxious to see the number figures for the naming rights.

I wonder if this is greasing the wheels for Matt Arnold to eventually receive a "promotion" to GM? Similar to the arrangement in Chicago with Epstein and Hoyer.

I heard $50 million thrown out yesterday, seems light to me for 15 years..

50/15 would seem like a pretty good deal. The exposure value of the naming rights was recently estimated at $2.76 million and Miller was paying $2.02 million or something. So getting $3.33 in the short term is a nice little overpay to compensate for the devaluation down the road. So if that is the figure it sounds pretty fair.

I doubt they got more than a million/year more than Miller was paying.

Does his name change back to "David Stearns" after 15 years or does it become a generic "Milwaukee Brewers POBO" if nobody else steps up with naming rights money?

Great news. I was worried that Stearns would move on to a bigger market before long.

Same here. The Brewers had already denied Stearns an interview with another team. This move will make it near impossible for another team to grab Stearns before the end of his new contract.

Hopefully, that contract is at least ten years... if not more.

One of the tweets from Haudricourt said that the Giants wanted to interview him for their President of Baseball ops last year (before hiring Farhan Zaidi) and that this promotion basically prevents any team from talking to him unless the Brewers give permission.

Edit: as MadScientist indicated in his above post..

Stearns probably had no interest in getting a C because the Brewers need a C. It makes much more sense to trade for 3B when it's not needed, and then move the other 3B to 2B, then trade for a 2B, but since the 3B is now at 2B, then the new 2B goes to SS
