MLB’s “Disabled List” will now be called “Injured List” as the word “Disabled” can be misconstrued.

Also, "Optioned" now changed to "Stearns' San Antonio Express"

Now that that's settled we can finally get down to talking about the rest of the proposals.
This draws a meh. I'll probably still just say or type dl.

Another headline some will yell “snowflakes” even though it doesn’t affect a thing for them rather than just being sensitive to those that deal with disabilities on a daily occurrence.

Strike outs will now be termed "rests in the dugout while opting not to promenade to first base."

Disabled list can be misconstrued only by people with too much time on their hands to think about really pointless things.

I suppose, but can anyone else find the irony in the evolution from the word Handicapped to Disabled when describing people with disabilities because it sounds nicer, and now that everyone has adjusted to the nice word, that word is now taboo?

Ugh. I generally understand the change and I accept it, but ugh.

"bullpen" is too offensive - I'm going to write Manfred and request them change it to free range reliever sanctuary

Good. I always felt "Disabled List" was a stupid term.

I started out teaching special education along with volunteering with special Olympics, and volunteering for special needs and personally don’t take offensive but I could see how some may. It’s just a politically correct world these days. People will make fuss over anything.

I had to wiki it...the disabled list started in 1966. I somehow wondered if it was called the crippled list before that.

Left field also has problematic connotations.

Honestly, this one just makes more sense logically since you're calling it what it is.

It'll take some getting used to in order to stop referring to it as the "DL", but sending our injured players to Illinois sounds like a hoot.

I wonder what percentage of people with legitimate disabilities were offended by the term disabled list? My guess is just about 0% until some non-disabled do-gooder thought they would save the world by pointing out this gross indiscretion being committed by MLB. And after that gross indiscretion was pointed out, the amount of disabled people offended by this term probably went from about 0% to 0.2%.

In another generation all of our children will look back in disgust that we actually used the term injured list. They will need to explain to our grandchildren how ablest we were but it was a different time and we didn't know any better. I can't believe grandpa used to call the Frito-Lay Differently-Abled Roster brought to you by Visa the injured list.

I enjoy the name change just for all the people triggered by it.

+1

I am a daily lurker logging in for the first time in maybe years to agree with this.

Anyone actually bothered by this change needs to sit down and take a deep breath.
