Kurt Suzuki is probably the best hitter on the Nationals right now and we play them next.

Cards' fans wear jorts.

Brewers are BACK! (Blue)

What a fun weekend of baseball. Let’s keep it rolling vs Wash.

So because I’m a firm believer in the “don’t look at what other teams are doing worry about yourself in April/May”. I randomly looked up and noticed the Cubs are playing well. And then I noticed Jason Heyward and his career .757 OPS is currently at .914(!?). And I realized , yeah we will be fine

I know Cubs fans woke up this morning feeling all wonderful being in 1st place. And good for them, they deserve it, they swept the Cards (albeit at home) but still no small feat! However, given the fact that the Crew has played the toughest schedule in MLB to this point, and has had 5 less off days than CHI to this point...if I'm a Cubs fan and I see that we're only able to put 1.5 games between us and Milwaukee during that stretch, i'm pretty scared!!

Don’t give them credit for being smart enough to figure those types of this out. Cubs fans are duuuuuuumb.

Yep! I'd assume most think the Brewers aren't for real and last year was a fluke.

trwi7 - Nicely done! I'm currently listening to Dan and Stu!

This inspired me to check their schedule wondering why they have 5 fewer games. Only 1 rain out so far so they've just had a lot of scheduled days off so far. I suppose that makes sense with the weather but the flip side of that is that they have 5 off days total the last two months. 3 in August, 2 in September (and 18 straight game days between the 2 off days). After the way they faded last season due to so few days off late in the season I can't help but smile.

And whose to say that their future off days won't get filled up by future "rain outs"

Two years ago today (5/7/17), the Brewers beat the Pirates 6-2 to move their record to 16-16. Since that day, the Brewers have spent exactly ONE DAY (4/16/18) with a record below .500. Not too shabby for a franchise that once had 12 consecutive losing seasons.

Look at the pitching now!!!!!

This is a 100 win team! Not including the World Series!!!

Seriously, this is a 100 win team, even with strong teams in the central.

Well, since this is the optimism thread, I won't pick a fight on the 100 win prediction. :-) And if their pitching can remain solid, it may not be out of reach. Here's hoping!

I will say this: Towards the end of April, I had begun to lose a lot of respect for the FO and decision makers within the Brewers organization. I never liked the notion of gambling on 3 young unproven starting pitchers in a year in which we're supposed to be in contention for the WS. It was infuriating to see them getting consistently shelled early on and losing games we can't afford to give away in a very tight NL.

BUT, the organization has made some incredible adjustments-signing a solid veteran in Gio. Moving Burnes to the pen. Even starting Houser and inserting Peralta early on but beyond the first inning is good for him psychologically. They've shown they can make some decisive decisions. And strategically, they've been spot on.

That has restored my confidence that this team is actually in it to win it and is serious about competing this year.

Brewers are 1/2 game out of first and 6 games over .500 in early May despite the toughest schedule in league and leading league in runs against! Imagine if what this team can do if pitching continues when they hit June/July schedule!

Brewers may never lose again.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

The greatest collection of out getters ever assembled has finally caught their groove. The pitching coach needs an extension now!

The bullpen is not our weakness, that starting pitching is. Till it proves otherwise, on paper, it’s a pretty bad group.

And they haven’t even played the Marlins yet!

What is best in life? To crush the Cardinals, Cubs, and Manny Machado, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their fanboys.

For me it is hard not to be optimistic when so few of the guys seems to be exceeding expectations and the team is still performing at a high level. Right now Yelich, Davies, Moose and Guerra are probably the only guys who I think are outperforming expectations. And outside of Davies I think the other 3 could maintain close to their pace. At the same time many guys look to have quite a bit of room for improvement in Shaw, Aguilar, Cain (with the bat), Braun, Chacin (looks to be turning the corner), Burnes, Jeffress, Peralta, etc. This team has played an incredibly tough schedule and has played well. The next 10 games are big but I see this as a team that has plenty of room for improvement.

Over the past month (since April 5) Orlando Arcia is hitting .287 BA / .330 OBP / .435 SLG. Since this is the optimism thread I will say that .766 OPS is likely the new normal for Arcia, but I will acknowledge there is a chance he may currently be outperforming expectations with the bat.
