As I have mentioned before you can't get rid of Perez. He is the back up for the infield and most notably at SS. Get rid of him and Arcia is literally the only person to man SS. You would have to replace him with a SS and Hiura isn't that nor is Shaw.

We have another Perez in Dubon waiting in AAA. Not as versatile, but with Gamel/Thames, Moose/Shaw Dubon's ability at SS or 2b makes Perez a target to be traded sooner than later.

That doesn't help the problem at all. Go ahead and swap Perez for Dubon...okay, now who are you dropping to make room for Shaw? Nope, can't be Dubon because once again someone has to back up SS. What I am saying is that roster spot is concrete. Perez, Dubon, Yuni...doesn't matter. No one in that roster spot can be subtracted to keep Shaw/Hiura/Thames on the same roster.

Either Hiura goes or Thames goes. There quite literally is no other possible option when Shaw comes back with the current roster.

I see what you mean. I was thinking in general but not with active 25man. Really need to find a trade partner for Thames, or Shaw is sitting in the minors for awhile.

Why can't we just go with 12 pitchers? We flip enough fresh pitchers during the season between AAA and MLB that this should be a viable option for a small portion of the schedule.

Yeah... Hernan Perez can be the 13th pitcher.

I believe they will demote Hiura once Shaw is ready to come back, don't think they will option Shaw quite yet and won't DFA Perez this year.

We also have another Perez in Saladino. He's pretty versatile. Doesn't solve the 25 issue though.

I'm guessing that the Brewers don't even know what they will do yet. Too many factors in play. Will Shaw get healthy quickly? Will Shaw hit on his rehab stint?

two games in, and shaw has struck out three times in nine appearances at the plate. one hit. one of his strikeouts was yesterday with the bases loaded and one out.

Brutal. Hard to believe he suddenly shows enough life by the end of the weekend to want to activate him. Wonder how long they'll let the rehab assignment run, and if it could end with being optioned.

The way Shaw is going he should be optioned to get his swing back. He is a whiff machine right now. He's of no use to CC at this time.

two strikeouts in four at-bats last night. and let's not forget that he had 25 strikeouts and zero walks in 52 spring training at-bats this year.

I don’t think Shaw is getting activated upon being done with his rehab if he is going to continue being an absolute bum down there too.

Keston has been serviceable...not great, but average. I think that coupled with Shaw still hitting like crap would make Keston the logical choice. As long as Keston is holding his own might as well let him start.

At some point they just have to accept Shaw was terrible in ST, terrible so far this year at the MLB level, and after rest can’t hit AAA pitching.

Shaw has turned into Brad Miller in front of our eyes. Wait, even Miller wasn't this bad. If he didn't have an option the R word would be in play. Option him and take a look in a couple months. It's basically a lost year for him.

I not sure Hiura has been even "serviceable". In his 10 games played he has struck out 2,3, or 4 times in 5 of those games. Right now he is whiffing at a 40% rate (17/42PAs). He's come up with 17 runners in scoring position and driven in one. His other RBI came on a solo HR. 4 times he has whiffed with a runner on 3rd. Very poor no matter how you look at it. Granted it's a small sample size, but he's not hitting like expected. The good side is that he's doing so much better than Shaw.

He struck out a lot in his first taste of AAA this year but then improved. It may take him a few weeks to get acclimated. It was unfair to think he'd set the world on fire right away.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Would this team be better with just having Perez play 2B? *Ducks...

No. Perez has been the same guy this year as he has his entire career, a guy who can't hit righties and can't get on base. His value is in his versatility and ability to hit lefties and pigeonholing him for the every day job at 2nd will not work out great on a long-term basis.

Hiura is one of the top prospects in the world and had an .800+ OPS like two days ago. [laughing]

This wasn’t a shot at Keston. I’m a big fan and believe he will be a great hitter eventually. Perez with defense and base running could bring stability to that position that he may not be ready for yet. In a post season run that may be something we need.

I was at the game in Memphis and Shaw left with an injury. It must have been minor but the trainer and coaching staff surrounded him and then he walked off the field. Perhaps he was called back up [smile]

Why on earth would you smile about that!? Shaw getting called up right now would be an absolutely AWFUL decision. He's not even batting .100 in the minors right now and Huira is displaying some rock solid power at the plate. It would kill our offense.

Maybe they are bring Shaw up to play 1B ... could he really be worse than what Aguilar is showing us? I know it doesn't make sense lefty-righty-wise, but I wouldn't be surprised if that is where Shaw ends up eventually this year.

For those of you who love war....Hiura in 13 games has a 0.2 war. Shaw in 40 games had a -0.7.

Now that Hiura is up and has shown at least some flashes of high quality at bats. I don’t see him not being our 2nd baseman the rest of the year. Moose makes $7mil+$1buyout and has played well.

No room for Shaw other than 1st but at this point it’s a matter of him/Aguilar/Thames....all of them are making John Jaha look like a hall of famer.
