I'd love to have him back, he'd be a great fit for this current team. How often does a controllable 4 WAR player get waived?

Just wonder if the bridge is burned on one or both sides.

(Feel free to move to transaction rumors/proposals if deemed more appropriate there)

Wow. I can't believe no one wanted to trade for him. Anyone in need of a 2B should jump at him if the cost is simply money.

The Orioles continue to be a poorly run organization.

I'll say. What a horrible look, losing arguably your best player, who is controllable, because you don't want to pay him $10M even though you aren't payroll stretched.

I don't know enough about offseason waivers to know if we'd even have a shot. If it's his choice, unfortunately, I doubt Milwaukee is high on his preferred list. He didn't seem to jive very well with Counsell and was jerked around considerably in 2018 before being traded to the worst team in baseball.

Villar is not coming here and it doesn’t really make sense after getting Urias.

Didn't watch a second of him in Baltimore, but all I know is when he was here, he was awful defensively and was a mistake waiting to happen on the bases.. there's a reason we traded him.

Well, there was a reason we traded for Schoop, too. Obviously, you sometimes end up being wrong.

I agree that Villar most likely is not coming here but Urias shouldn't have anything to do with it. Villar fits as either a regular 3B insurance if Shaw doesn't rebound, or if he does, as a super sub all around at 3rd, 2nd, and SS. There's plenty of reps in that role.

Villar fits no matter what happens with Urias. For all we know, they don't think Hiura's glove will ever be good enough and plan to shop him high now this offseason.

I'd love to have him back...his power at the middle infield positions would be a welcome addition after losing Grandal's bat.

Despite his awkward exit from Milwaukee ...

Villar would be an excellent addition to play middle infield & 3B

He could also be an option as a leadoff hitter & play in an emergency at 1B & in CF

Strengths: versatility, switch hitter, speed (40 SB in 2019), pinch-hitting, power

Challenges: defensive limitations & base running blunders

I’d love for Villar to be brought back for the right price - especially if they can trade or choose to non-tender Arcia & Shaw

Finally, I still hope the Brewers re-sign Moose for two years (no more than) $20M

If you do move Arcia, Villar makes sense to me.

He doesn’t really fit the mold the current FO has been going after, which is probably why he was traded in the first place. He’s going to hit in the .260 range, approach 200 K, and 20 E.

He’s versatile and has some pop, but this was his only 20 HR season and came in a juiced ball year.

I actually like Villar, but he just doesn’t fit what they’re doing.

Villar is, at the very least, a non-black hole.

The Crew lost Grandal, they lost Pomeranz, both of whom they really should have made plays to bring back. Get Moose back to play first, use Villar at third, and they now are a decent catcher away from having no black holes in the lineup.

Except Villar can’t play 3B. His fielding percentage was .881 at 3B the last tome he got an extended look there (2017). If he played the same amount of innings at 3B as he did last year in the field that equates to 48 errors in a full season. That is worse than Braun at 3B.

He is a middle infielder that with good offensive production is livable in the field. I’m not sure I would want to give him the somewhat sporadic playing time as I’m not sure he would really do well in such a role. Maybe he would...who knows. He could be a 26th man, but certainly not a true utility player.

You don't win by having no black holes in your lineup. You win with having stars in your lineup. The Brewer focus needs to be on bringing in an impact bat and a number 2 starting pitcher.

As for what Villar brings, Starlin Castro is a much better player and he's available too. Villar ended up at 2B because he failed miserably at SS and 3B. Castro has ability to play 3B and his K rate is much lower than Villar's

He’s also a well below average bat at 3B. It’s the same as moving Hiura to 1B. It takes away what’s special, and that’s offensive production from a middle infielder.

Villar is in his 3rd and final arby year and was projected to get about $10M. Now $10M is a good price for a 4 WAR player, but will he be a 4 WAR player next year? He doesn't seem to be the most consistent player out there.

I would not want him back. It was widely known he was being shopped and nobody wanted to give up anything to get him. We'll see if anyone puts in a claim. I have a feeling he's going to be a free agent. $10M is too much to take a flier on him if you are a rebuilding team and it doesn't appear any of the contenders trust him. It would be funny if he ended up in SD.

I'm guessing the Cardinals or Cubs will claim him and he'll go on to be a thorn in our side in 2020.
