The guy drew walks like there was no tomorrow, too. HOFer.

Yeah he knew the strike zone well and has a great career OBP.

the home plate umpire at today's game disagrees with you . . . so much that he ejected the big hurt in the 9th.

Hopefully, Eugene can use this offseason to work on his punctuation.

As someone pointed out earlier in this thread, Thomas was always huge. As a two sport athlete at Auburn, the guy was part of an intense workout regimen, and IMO, has maintained that physique fairly consistently since he emerged into the Bigs. Take a look at the guy's rookie card from the 1990 Topps set. It shows him playing 1B at Auburn. I honestly don't think you could tell much of a difference in the guy's size between then and now, something that steroids would make virtually impossible.

1st Ballot HOFer in my mind.

He's definitely going to benefit from comparisons to some of the more tainted HR-hitting types. He's always been just a naturally large dude.

Has Sammy's body really changed more than Roger Clemens' has? (That's not a rhetorical question. I haven't seen their respective "before" and "after" pictures lately.)

This is the sad part of steroids, assuming Thomas is indeed all natural. The legacy of guys that were simply genetic freaks will be tarnished by those who used roids to attain the same stature.
I know several guys who are huge and who I know for an absolute fact have never been steroid users. Sometimes, there's just that guy who can bench 300 lbs in 8th grade. It's just that such people are not as common as widespread steroid use has led some people to believe.

The most impressive thing for me with Frank was his strike zone. I don't remember a whole lot of pitchers making him look bad. He was a very well-disciplined hitter.

i just heard frank thomas say "it means a lot to me because i did it the right way". An obvious and direct reference at other steriod users and their accomplishments. While people no doubt lie and he had plenty of time to plan his speech, it sounded sincere and real. I believe he has been clean, if for no other reason than that he didn't need them. He was always strong and hit right away. congrats to him, i am glad he hung around to get it.
