Huntsville Press Release:

The Milwaukee Brewers have sent shortstop Ozzie Chavez from triple-A Nashville to Huntsville and placed infielder Milko Jaramillo on the disabled list, retroactive to July 25. Chavez will be in uniform Thursday night when the Stars meet the Birmingham Barons in the fourth of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium.

Chavez was promoted from Huntsville to Nashville on June 20 and batted .231 with one home run and six runs batted in over 78 at-bats in 24 games for the Sounds. The 22 year-old batted .254 with one home run and 21 runs driven in over 68 games for the Stars and had hit safely in each of his last four games before joining Nashville.

Jaramillo is hitting .163 with one run batted in since joining Huntsville on May 31.

No word on the nature of Jaramillo's injury -- Mass Haas

No word on the nature of Jaramillo's injury

Perhaps he strained his ability to hit.

July 26 Roundup From rangersminors.mostvaluablenetwork.com

L-King southpaw Julian Cordero ran into his first trouble as a starting pitcher on Wednesday evening, allowing a Rheinecker-esque line of three innings, eight hits, four runs (three earned), no walks, and one strikeout.

July 21

Left hander Julian Cordero was outstanding once again, logging a season-high seven innings while allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits. Cordero, who has allowed just 11 hits in 23 innings since joining the Clinton rotation, walked one and struck out five.

Cordero has a K/BB ratio of 17:5 in his four starts this season.

Who knows anything about his stuff?

West Virginia Press Release:

CHARLESTON, WV (July 28, 2006) - The West Virginia Power, Class A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers have made another roster move.

Today, middle infielder Hector Bernal was placed on the disabled list due to his left leg injury on Thursday night, and Ryan Barba has been called up from the Arizona Brewers to take his place.

In fifth inning of Thursday night's game against the Charleston Riverdogs, Bernal seriously injured his left leg while trying to turn a double play at second base. The extent of his injury is not known at this time, but he is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Bernal was hitting .203 with three RBI over 13 games with the Power.

Barba, who was signed by Milwaukee earlier this month as an undrafted free agent, played in seven games with the Arizona Brewers and hit .231 with seven RBI. Barba played his college ball at the University of New Mexico where he hit .329 with nine home runs and 43 RBI during the 2006 season.

The Charleston Daily Mail has learned that Bernal did indeed break his left tibia and fibula.

Interesting to note that this is the second consecutive occasion that the organization has bypassed Helena to promote an infielder from Arizona (Bernal being the prior occurrance).

Earlier this season the Brewers acquired 1B Greg Sain from the Padres (since released), Huntsville RHP Matt Yeatman from the Twins, and RHP Matt Smith from the Cardinals (since released) in deals for PTBNL's.

In each of these trades, the transaction has been closed with cash considerations.

There are no PTBNL's now pending for the organization (coming or going).

RHP Wil Laureano of the Power has been traded to the Phillies for third baseman David Bell.

A Brewer will have to be removed from the 40-man (and the 25-man) to make room.

Wilfredo Laureano's Brewerfan Player Index Page:
Already in professional baseball six years, the 22-year-old Dominican product is not a significant loss; the Phillies South Atlantic League team (Lakewood) has seen the 6'6" righty this season...

As poster brewcru1 mentioned in an injury thread earlier (and we never doubt brewcru1 and his perfect record :) ), RHP Chris Saenz was indeed released by the Brewers earlier this spring.

Chris will always have those six shutout innings vs. St. Louis. Hopefully we see him again somewhere in the future.

From the Tennessean:

Two added: The Sounds called up Milko Jaramillo on Saturday from Huntsville.

The infielder from Venezuela was signed from the Independent League at the start of the season and was with the Sounds for seven games.

He played second and third base, batted .214 (3-for-14) with three RBIs and three stolen bases.

Jaramillo, 25, has been with Huntsville since leaving Nashville on May 30. He batted .154 (8-for-52) with one RBI in 20 games there. Jaramillo, who originally signed as a non-drafted free agent, was selected in 1996 in the minor league draft by the Cardinals organization.

With Jaramillo being added and former Rangers outfielder Laynce Nix coming today after a trade, the Sounds will have to drop a player from the roster.

Not sure how Jaramillo can go from the Huntsville DL to Nashville in a matter of days, or the better question, why.

That Nashville roster is really oddly crafted now. 13 pitchers, and a ton of slap hitters -- Dave Krynzel, Nix and Kennard Bibbs are the only true outfielders on the roster.

Graham Koonce is really going to have to shoulder the run production role night in and night out for this team -- he did last night, but to no avail.

Perhaps a Nashville pitcher will get sent to Hunstville, since they only have 10. Boscan really isn't needed now that they have Lee.

REDHAWKS SELL HARMSEN?S CONTRACT TO BREWERS
Reliever to join Brevard County of the Florida State League

Fargo, N.D. ? The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have sold the contract of RHP Brandon Harmsen to the Milwaukee Brewers organization, the Northern League club announced today. Harmsen is the first member of the 2006 RedHawks to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization.

Harmsen, 24, was a 2006 Northern League All-Star selection and was 3-3 with a 3.89 ERA along with having one save for the RedHawks at the time his contract was sold. In 39.1 innings of work Harmsen allowed 19 runs, 17 earned, on 34 hits. He also walked 11 batters while striking out 35 and was able to hold opposing batters to a .230 batting average against him this season.

Acquired from the Gary SouthShore RailCats during the preseason, this season was Harmsen?s first in the independent ranks of professional baseball after playing in the New York Yankees organization for the previous four seasons. He was a sixth round draft pick in 2002 for the Yankees and played at the Single-A level for three seasons before being released.

Harmsen will return to the Florida State League where he played 19 games last season with Tampa. He will report to the Brewers affiliate, Brevard County.

In the midst of his fifth professional season, Harmsen joins Brevard County with a 27-30 career record and a 3.80 ERA.

Brandon Harmsen's Career Statistics:
Drafted in the same draft and round as Huntsville's Khalid Ballouli...

The reason Milko Jaramillo came off the 7-day DL so quickly for his transfer to Nashville was that his stint had been backdated to July 22nd (right big toe).

Nashville Media Notes:

BRAY PLACED ON DISABLED LIST: Right-handed reliever Steve Bray suffered a strained right hamstring during his 1 1/3 innings of work last night and has been placed on the Sounds? disabled list. The 25-year-old has allowed a run in only one of his initial 10 outings for Nashville (0.96 ERA, 1ER / 9.1 IP). His removal from the active roster creates an opening for outfielder Laynce Nix.

In order to add that needed 11th pitcher to Huntsville, LHP Manny Parra gets his promotion back up to the Stars (from Brevard County).

In other Manatee news, outfielder Hasan Rasheed has been placed on the disabled list with an undisclosed injury.

Manny Parra down on the farm..

it's been a strange journey for manny...a top prospect once, only derailed by several injuries...could finally make the majors with a strong run at the end of the year...of course, he's got to be re-added to the 40 man..

i guess i never realized his whip was as high as it has been since he left beloit..nonetheless, manny has k'ed a guy per inning on his career..and he doesn't allow many hits, so he could still be a good major leaguer..

He is still on the 40 man as far as I know. Not sure why he's not on the Brewerfan roster, but I don't think he was removed.

Not so fast on that 11-man Huntsville staff...

Huntsville Press Release:
Link, text follows --

www.huntsvillestars.com/n...newsId=946

The Milwaukee Brewers have promoted pitcher Manny Parra from high class-A Brevard County of the Florida State League to Huntsville and placed pitcher Khalid Ballouli on the disabled list, retroactive to July 28. Parra is scheduled to start for the Stars Wednesday night in the final game of their five-game set with Chattanooga.

Parra, returning from off-season shoulder surgery, made 14 starts and one appearance in relief for the Manatees, going 1-3 with a 2.96 earned run average. The southpaw worked 54 2/3 innings, allowing 47 hits, walking 32 and striking out 61. Parra went 5-6 with a 3.96 ERA in 16 starts for Huntsville last season before being shut down for the year on July 1.

Ballouli has been sidelined by a shoulder strain for a second time this season after suffering the injury in his last outing on July 27 against Birmingham. The right-hander was out of action from May 17 through June 5 and was moved to the bullpen on his return to the roster. Ballouli is 2-4 with a 4.15 ERA in seven starts and 16 appearances in relief.
