He had a problem with frequent injuries--wasn't he plagued by a bad groin muscle? That likely affected his mechanics and altered his delivery as well.

Jeff Pickler, who was clancyphile's Brent Suter at the dawn of Brewerfan.com, is on the Twins' big league coaching staff, good for him.

Congratulations to 30-year-old RHP Arcenio Leon, who was briefly on the Brewers' 40-man roster after they claimed him from the Astros in November 2012. Leon spent 2013 at AA Huntsville, and split AAA/AA time at Nashville and Huntsville for the Crew in 2014.

A professional since 2005 and now in his 13th professional season, Leon just had his minor league contract purchased by the Tigers and should debut for them shortly. Leon will be the second-oldest Venezuelan-born pitcher to make his debut in the big leagues, according to Baseball Reference. Ubaldo Heredia made his debut when he was 31 years old, while Leon is 30 years and 237 days old. (Junior Guerra was 30 years, 147 days when he debuted with the White Sox in June of 2015.)

Just noticed that our old buddy, Jose Sermo is now with Salem Red Sox (still showing up in his Brewer uniform).

2016 big leaguer 1B/OF Andy Wilkins had to settle for the independent ranks to begin 2017, but the Minnesota Twins have picked him up his Atlantic League assignment and have placed him at AA Chattanooga in the Southern League.

RHP Brooks Hall released by the Diamondbacks from AAA Reno (had spent the bulk of 2017 with AA Jackson).

So both RHP's dealt in the Jonathan Broxton from the Reds trade, Barrett Astin and Kevin Shackelford, debuted with the Reds in 2017, we failed to properly note Shackelford's rough debut vs. the Brewers on 6/29, his lone appearance before a return to AAA, where he is shining, as noted below.

Shackelford named to AAA All-Star Game

RHP Junior Rincon, who left as a minor league free agent after 2016, has found work, signed by Atlanta and assigned to High-A.

Via Baseball America:

Baltimore Orioles Signed: LHP Isaac Silva (released by Brewers, Aug. 24, 2015)

Don't worry, I too, had blocked out the 13.11 ERA in 15 relief appearances for the then 22-year-old former Cardinals farmhand.

Congratulations to Caleb Gindl.

Twice now he's had to go the indy ball route, but San Francisco picks him up as you'll see in the linked Tweet.

I thought Gindl might make a modest big league career as a backup left handed corner OF. He had a nice debut in 2013 - .779 OPS on 155 plate appearances. Not bad (not that good either). But he kind of went in the tank after that.

He just didn't do anything that well. Not enough power. Hit good, but not great. Nothing special on defense.
