You might want to fix the date on the link report. I thought it was an old thread that got bumped.

Lara hitting .133. Ouch. That's actually hard to do with as many ABs as he's had.

Shuckers move into first place tie after comeback win on Wednesday
Clint Coulter's two-run single capped comeback win to clinch series
By Biloxi Shuckers

Biloxi Boxscore

Like the title says, Biloxi moves into a first place tie with their 10th win in 13 games. The offense, previously left for dead, added another few points to its team batting average by pounding out 10 hits. Mauricio Dubon, Michael Choice, Clint Coulter, and Dustin Houle all chipped in with two hits. Houle is now batting .311 on the year, which isn't necessarily surprising to me given my long time prospect crush on him, but it is great to see that he keeps forcing himself into the lineup. At this point last year, Rene Garcia had made it into 8 games as Nottingham's backup. Houle is at 14. And he has caught 6 of the 10 runners attempting to steal on him. That is not bad.

Taylor Williams started and was pulled after his standard 45ish pitches. It was one of his better starts in a sea of solid starts, primarily because he allowed no walks in his 2 1/3 innings pitched. Two hits, four strikeouts, and his K:BB ratio is now better than 2:1. Jon Perrin, who has quietly struggled a bit as Williams' tandem buddy, also had one of his better performances of the early season, allowing just an unearned run in 3 2/3 innings, though it should be said that the unearned run was caused by his error, so it really should be earned, shouldn't it? Tayler Scott picked up his first save of the season. Earned it, too, getting out of a jam in the eighth inning (noted below). Matt Ramsey pitched three of the previous four days, so that's probably why he wasn't in the game in the ninth.

Biloxi Game Log

Shuckers get out of this situation...... wait for it.......Scott free:

Jacksonville Bottom of the 8th
Michael Reed remains in the game as the left fielder.
Jeremias Pineda singles on a ground ball to center fielder Johnny Davis.
Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Cal Towey replaces Esmerling De La Rosa.
Cal Towey strikes out swinging. Jeremias Pineda steals (6) 2nd base.
Yefri Perez walks.
Alex Yarbrough singles on a fly ball to center fielder Johnny Davis. Jeremias Pineda to 3rd. Yefri Perez to 2nd.
Pitching Change: Tayler Scott replaces Forrest Snow, batting 9th.
Brian Anderson strikes out swinging.
John Norwood grounds out, third baseman Angel Ortega to first baseman Dustin DeMuth.

Late Homer Sinks Wisconsin
Fort Wayne salvages final game of series with 3-2 win over Wisconsin
By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

(Photo: Wisconsin Timber Rattlers)

Wisconsin Boxscore

The Rattlers did manage 10 hits, however they also managed to field a lineup where six of the players ended the game hitting below .200. Monte Harrison is getting hot again, with a single, a double, and his 7th walk in his past 36 ABs. Not sure how much of that is related to Monte's approach, and how much of that is related other teams wanting to pitch to the rest of the lineup instead. Ryan Aguilar had four hits, all singles, though he did get caught stealing to end the eighth.

David Burkhalter made his first start since June 7th, 2016. He was fine today, though somewhat oddly he only has one strikeout through eight innings on the year. Nattino Diplan gave up the go-ahead home run in the bottom of the seventh. He's one of the Brewers' more frustrating guys to watch pitch.

Wisconsin Game Log

Fort Rain puts it away:

Fort Wayne Bottom of the 7th
Pitching Change: Nattino Diplan replaces Luke Barker.
G. K. Young grounds out to first baseman Ryan Aguilar.
Webster Rivas singles on a ground ball to center fielder Monte Harrison.
Nate Easley strikes out swinging.
Rod Boykin homers (3) on a fly ball to left field. Webster Rivas scores.
Jack Suwinski grounds out, second baseman Jonathan Oquendo to first baseman Ryan Aguilar.

The Wisconsin line up had the following batting averages in it:

.193
.196
.189
.189
.198
.133

Double ouch. Or maybe six times ouch.

Mudcats shutout Lynchburg in game 1, 2-0. 6 innings for Burnes and Nate Griep with the save. Troy Stokes Jr. had a double in the 7th for the game winning hit. Gatewood hitting streak to 19. Storms around Lynchburg right now. They may or may not get in game 2 and it might be late. I will have the link for these games in the early AM.

I could see a Supak to Carolina, Burnes to Biloxi move coming soon! Both been simply lights out & dominating competition. Maybe it waits until a Colorado Springs spot opens with Wilkerson, Lopez, or Ventura moving up. Otherwise.... don't think Jungmann needs a starting spot.

Mudcats sweep twin bill in Lynchburg

Image

Corbin Burnes has been light out good this year (now 3-0 with a 1.13 ERA) and he was good again today with 6 shutout innings. He was matched by Brock Hartson for Lynchburg until the 7th, and final, inning. Nat Griep came in for the save in the bottom of the 7th.

Troy Stokes Jr., mired in a slump that has seen his batting average plummet, lofted a double off the center field fence to drive in the lead run in the top of the seventh. Isan Diaz (1-3, 2B) and Weston Wilson (1-3, RBI) also contributed to the two run 7th.

Carolina Game 1 Box Score

Carolina Game 1 Log

Carolina Top of the 7th

Isan Diaz doubles (7) on a fly ball to center fielder Andrew Calica.
Jake Gatewood flies out to right fielder Ka'ai Tom. Isan Diaz to 3rd.
Pitching Change: Justin Garcia replaces Brock Hartson.
Justin Garcia intentionally walks Trent Clark.
Troy Stokes Jr. doubles (5) on a fly ball to center fielder Andrew Calica. Isan Diaz scores. Trent Clark to 3rd.

Weston Wilson singles on a ground ball to center fielder Andrew Calica. Trent Clark scores. Troy Stokes Jr. to 3rd. Max McDowell to 2nd.
Wendell Rijo flies out to left fielder Connor Marabell.
Corey Ray strikes out swinging.

Wuilder Rodriguez
got the start in game 2 of the double header going 4 1/3 in another good outing for him. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits, 2 walks and 3 strike outs. Quintin Torres-Costa went the final 1 2/3 innings getting the win to run his record to 4-1. He gave up no hits or walks and struck out 3.

Trent Clark (1-3, 2 RBI, SB) had the game winning hit with a 2 RBI single in the 5th. Wendell Rijo was 2-3 with a double. Jake Gatewood hit in both halves of the double header to extend his hitting streak to 20, as mentioned above. The Mudcats' team record is 23.

So you're saying your man-crush is causing his ascension? Can you please crush on a few others too? [laughing]
