top of the 7th has not been kind to the Sky Sox.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Yeah, hopefully the link reporter doesn't reproduce that part of the game log. Carolina likely to be rained out. We've had rain all day in West Virginia and they're scheduled for it also.

After your comment I expected to see a big crooked number, but wasn't expecting THAT!

Good news is, another clean inning by Wang. I think we'll be seeing him by the AS break.

Sky Sox Streak Snapped By Sacramento

Colorado Springs Box Score

Thursday's game was about as brutal as it gets.

With a 6-3 lead, the Sky Sox gave up 13 runs in the 7th, resulting in an ugly 17-7 lose to Sacramento.

Tyler Cravy gave up a walk and three straight hits to lead off the 7th. Tim Dillard would get pounded even worse. He would give up two hits, walk three, hit a batter and throw a wild pitch. David Goforth then came in and was treated equally harshly, giving up three straight hits, including a three run homer.

The Sky Sox bats actually weren't bad, producing seven runs on eight hits and five walks. Garrett Cooper (2-5, HR, 5 RBI) lead the team, hitting grand slam and driving in five runs. Lewis Brinson (2-4) and Ivan De Jesus Jr. (2-3) each had multiple hit games.

The lose was the most forgettable of the year for the Sky Sox - who have been beating up on opponents of late.

Cooper's 36 RBIs now leads the PCL.

Mudcats' game on rain delay. It's supposed to start around 7 ET now but there are calls for T-Storms until about 9. I'm not holding my breath.

Betancourt leads Shuckers to fourth straight win in Jacksonville
Shuckers stay atop South Division and go for five-game sweep on Friday
By Biloxi Shuckers

JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Biloxi Shuckers won their fourth straight game Thursday night, defeating the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 5-3 to remain atop the Southern League's South Division. Javier Betancourt homered and went 3-for-4 to lead a 12-hit outburst in Jacksonville.

The win improves the Shuckers to 18-16 on the season and gives them a half-game lead in the division pending the results of Pensacola and Mississippi's games this evening. The Shuckers, Blue Wahoos, and Braves entered play today in a three-way tie for first place.

Luis Ortiz (W, 2-3) started for the Shuckers, working 5.2 innings and allowing just one run on three hits. The righty struck out just one, but did not allow any hits until the fourth inning.

Ortiz traded zeroes with Shrimp starter Chris Mazza (L, 0-2) through four innings until the Shuckers got on the board in the top of the fifth. Javier Betancourt launched his second home run of the season around the left field foul pole to put the Shuckers up 1-0.

The Shuckers would add another run in the sixth, when Mauricio Dubon singled, advanced to second on a groundout, alertly stole third on a throw back to the pitcher, and came home on a passed ball. The stolen base, Dubon's 17th, extended his lead on the Southern League and Double-A leaderboards.

Ortiz finally allowed a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Nick Ramirez entered to finish the inning and keep the lead intact at 2-1. In the bottom of the eighth inning, reliever Bubba Derby benefitted from a heads-up play by his catcher Jacob Nottingham to turn a popped-up bunt into a double play and thwart a threat.

In the top of the ninth, the Shuckers broke the game open with a Clint Coulter home run, Art Charles double, and RBI singles from Dubon and Angel Ortega to stretch the lead to 5-1. After Josh Uhen struggled in the ninth, Matt Ramsey (S, 10) finished the game off with the tying run on second to notch his league-leading 10th save.

Dubon, Ortega and DeMuth collected two hits each and DeMuth extended his on-base streak to 19 games. The Shuckers have collected double-digit hits in each game of the series and 47 all-together.

Biloxi has won 11 of their last 14 games since April 28.

The Shuckers will try for their first series sweep of the season on Friday as they send Aaron Wilkerson to the mound against Omar Bencomo. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm, with the Beau Rivage Pregame Show starting at 5:45 pm on Cruisin' WGCM AM-1240/FM-100.9 and the Shuckers Radio Network. The game will also be available at biloxishuckers.com and TuneIn Radio.

Segovia Drives in Five in Wisconsin Win
Timber Rattlers beat Lake County 6-0 to open series

EASTLAKE, OH - Joantgel Segovia had a big night in the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-0 win over the Lake County Captains at Classic Park on Thursday night. The Wisconsin outfielder went 3-for-3 with a double, two stolen bases, his first professional home run, and five RBI to provide the offense. A trio of Timber Rattlers hurlers combined on the eight-hit shutout.

Ryan Aguilar started the Wisconsin second inning with a triple, but he was still at third base with two outs. Then, Segovia came through with a single to get Aguilar home for a 1-0 lead.

The Rattlers (15-16) added to their lead in the third inning. Mario Feliciano drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on an errant pickoff throw. Tucker Neuhaus drove in Feliciano with a grounder to short.

Segovia struck again in the top of the fourth to extend the Wisconsin lead. Lake County starting pitcher Justin Garza allowed a leadoff walk to Ronnie Gideon and a hit-and-run single by Jonathan Oquendo to put runners on the corners with one out. Segovia lifted a high fly ball down the line in left field. The ball was called fair for a three-run home run.

Lake County manager Larry Day rushed out to argue with plate umpire Robert Nunez and was ejected before Segovia could complete his jog around the bases.

The Rattlers got a final run with two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Gilbert Lara double to extend the inning to Segovia. The hot-hitting Segovia cracked a double to left-center to drive in Lara to become the first Timber Rattler this season to have five RBI in a game.

The Captains (13-20) had eight hits in the game, but could not solve any of the three Wisconsin pitchers on the night.

Zack Brown, who was making his first appearance since Opening Night on April 6, made the start and struck out three over two scoreless innings before leaving on his pitch count.

Jordan Desguin was next on the mound for the Rattlers and he picked up the victory with five scoreless innings. He scattered four hits without a walk or a strikeout.

Andrew Vernon closed out the game with two scoreless frames and three strikeouts.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Friday night at Classic Park. Thomas Jankins (1-2, 3.82) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Juan Hillman (1-3, 9.41) is set to start for the Captains. Game time is 5:30pm CDT.
