Seems like Luis Ortiz has really found a rhythm since returning from injury. Is his use out of the pen, albeit in a piggyback role, mean anything at all as far as his planned MLB role, or not really?

I would say not really - with all the arms coming back from injury or slowly getting stretched back out between A+ and AA right now, it's going to start getting tough for some guys to reach perceived innings limit goals for the season at those levels. I'm thinking once the 1st half of the minor league season wraps up, there are going to be a slew of moves across the organization to try and get starting pitching prospects into situations where they can routinely go 6IP + depending on specific game pitch counts - even if that means demotions for some guys simply to get on a staff with lower priority pitchers. I also wouldn't be surprised if a trade or two by the deadline lessens the logjam of arms at those levels.

Plus, you can hear from Manager Matt Erickson, Alec Bettinger, and Trever Morrison."

Box Score / Game Log

Do enjoy the audio podcast, folks. The half-hour flies by, always worthwhile.

THAMES LIFTS OFF, SKY SOX EVEN SERIES WITH RIVER CATS

Click above for the full report, these notes included:

Big Game Thames: Brewers rehabber Eric Thames put on a show Saturday night at Raley Field. In the second inning in game two against Sacramento, he slugged a three-run home run while sparking each of the next two scoring frames on singles by Thames. Out of the seven Sky Sox runs, Thames plated three of them.

Strong Rehab: Eric Thames, who joined the Sky Sox on an MLB rehab assignment Wednesday night, has gone 6-for-12 over three games on the road trip. In his first game in Fresno, he went 2-for-4 with two singles against the Grizzlies. In game two, he collected one single. On Saturday night, he broke out with three hits, including a home run.

Asher's Groove: Starter Alec Asher set a new season-high in innings pitched with seven strong tossed Saturday night in route to his third win of the season and first since May 8. The right-hander has only allowed five earned runs in his last 16.1 innings pitched.

Taylor's Assistance: Tyrone Taylor came away with two assists Saturday night from the outfield when Chase d'Arnaud was caught stretching a triple in the second inning and when Ryan Hanigan was caught stretching a double on his single in the fifth inning.

Sacrifice: Brett Phillips' two sacrifice flies Saturday night tied the club record for sacrifice flies in a game, marking the 19th time where a Sky Sox player has had two sacrifice flies in a game. The last occurrence took place earlier on this road trip on Wednesday night in Fresno by Kyle Wren.

***

Box Score / Game Log

Let's not forget, RHP Alec Asher is on the Milwaukee 40-man roster. Only 82 pitches in seven very good innings.

Talk about find of the year -- 25-year-old infielder Dylan Moore (shortstop Saturday night) has split his time near exactly between AA Biloxi and the Sky Sox. You want a consistently magnificent 2018? Check out the split matchups between the two levels in everything from batting line to power to BB/K ratio to SB success. It's nearly a mirror image, amazing!

Final: DSL Brewers 3, DSL Mets #2 Squad 2

Box Score

Now with a record of 5-2, the Cervecero kids rallied with a tying run in the top of the 9th, and then outscored the Mets' youngsters 2-1 in the extra-inning format.

18-year-old 2nd-year infielder Victor Maria had the lone extra-base hit among the eight team knocks, a double.

6'3" 17-year-old first-year RF Alwinson Valdez drew two of the team's six walks, scored his first pro run, stole his first pro base and committed his 1st pro error within an eventful game.

Yay, pitching, as both runs allowed were unearned. Surprising that 20-year-old 3rd year DSL'er Henry Medina wasn't brought stateside this spring, based on his prior efforts.

18-year-old RHP Jhoan Cruz' 2nd outing as a pro went better than his 1st, and 19-year-old fellow rookie Dantel Ramirez has made three career appearances and is now 3-0. More than a good luck charm so far, he's fanned 11 and walked only two in 7.2 innings.

Game Log

The rally --

DSL Brewers Top of the 9th

Alwinson Valdez walks.
Jesus Chirinos singles on a ground ball to right fielder Jan Cabrera. Alwinson Valdez to 2nd.

Alberis Ferrer singles on a line drive to left fielder Ezequiel Pena. Alwinson Valdez scores. Daniel Castillo to 2nd.
Juan Frias grounds into a force out, pitcher Jefferson Escorcha to third baseman Eliam Arias. Daniel Castillo out at 3rd. Alberis Ferrer to 2nd. Juan Frias to 1st.
Victor Vargas strikes out swinging.
Carlos Rodriguez pops out to pitcher Jefferson Escorcha.

The extra frame --

DSL Brewers Top of the 10th
Carlos Rodriguez starts inning at 2nd base.
Larry Ernesto walks.
Victor Maria singles on a ground ball to first baseman Alexis Marquez. Carlos Rodriguez to 3rd. Larry Ernesto to 2nd.
Pitching Change: Enmanuel Almonte replaces Jefferson Escorcha.
Luis Silva singles on a ground ball to center fielder Stanley Consuegra. Carlos Rodriguez scores. Larry Ernesto scores. Victor Maria out at 3rd on the throw, center fielder Stanley Consuegra to third baseman Eliam Arias.
Alwinson Valdez walks. Luis Silva to 2nd.
Daniel Castillo pops out to pitcher Enmanuel Almonte in foul territory.
Alberis Ferrer strikes out swinging.

DSL Mets2 Bottom of the 10th

Ezequiel Pena starts inning at 2nd base.
Eliam Arias grounds out, second baseman Victor Vargas to first baseman Victor Maria. Ezequiel Pena to 3rd.
Felix Valerio called out on strikes.
With Federico Polanco batting, wild pitch by Dantel Ramirez, Ezequiel Pena scores.
Federico Polanco reaches on a fielding error by first baseman Victor Maria.
Stanley Consuegra walks. Federico Polanco to 2nd.

Yeah, Mr. Umpire!

Final: DSL Brewers/Indians 7, DSL Cubs #1 Squad 6

Nice daily double of DSL one-run wins!

Box Score / Game Log

19-year-old rookie Panamanian RHP Moises Ruiz followed up his four-inning scoreless debut with an uneven outing, but made it through 4.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned). The pitchers that followed were Cleveland farmhands.

A fellow Panama project, 2nd-year CF Bryan Dimas, was 1-for-5 but added to his amazing strikeout proficiency with three whiffs. That's 13 in 19 at-bats this year, and 105 in 185 career at-bats. Sorry Bryan, but this fascinates me. We will fondly look back on these days when you make your Miller Park debut.

17-year-old Venezuelan catcher Luis Valderrama was 0-for-4 in his pro debut, but was behind the dish in all nine innings as his team won.

Two other Brewers didn't debut, but this was the first time Brazilian RF Vitor Watanabe was in a starting lineup (he tripled - remember, Watanabe also made a non mop-up relief appearance last week).

Also the first start for switch-hitting 3B Jose Arteaga, who walked but also committed two throwing errors.
