DSL Brewers are today scheduled to finish a game suspended by rain back on June 23rd, and then play their regularly scheduled game in a 7-inning contest.

HOWEVER, the Dominican side of the Hispaniola island has been blanketed by rain all morning and it looks like that's going to carry on through the afternoon. I would be surprised if either game gets in.

Indeed, all DSL games postponed. Since we're almost at the end of the first half I imagine the regularly scheduled game will be cancelled and they'll try to get the suspended game in tomorrow as part of a new double-header.

Over his last 16 games, Lucas Erceg has a .865 OPS. I recall him struggling the first half of last year but coming on strong the 2nd half.

Final: Jackson 6, Biloxi 1

Generals Earn First Win in Biloxi Behind Takahashi's Ten K's
Ray Clocks Thirteenth Homer for Shuckers
By Spencer Siegel / Biloxi Shuckers

(Michael Krebs)

Biloxi Box Score

Ugly game all around for Biloxi on Tuesday night.

Shucker hitters managed only three hits and three walks all evening. They struck out 13 times. The only run was a Corey Ray HR in the 6th.

Aside from two perfect innings from Danny Reynold, Biloxi pitching was uninspiring as Trey Supak and Josh Uhen gave up too many hits and too many walks in the lose. The Shuckers topped it all off with two errors. The score could have been worse but Jackson went 1-16 with runners in scoring position.

The Generals stole four bases on the evening.

Batting

Troy Stokes, Jr.: 1-3, BB
Corey Ray: 1-4, HR
Keston Hiura: 1-4

Pitching

Trey Supak: 5.0 IP, 6 hits, 4 ER, 3BB, 2K, Lose
Danny Reynolds: 2.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 0K
Josh Uhen: 2.0 IP, 2 hits, 2 ER, 3BB, 1K

Notes

Supak is 0-6 with a 5.22 ERA at AA.

Keston Hiura is 2 for his last 29.

Biloxi Game Log

One highlight for Biloxi - a HR from Corey Ray in the 6th.

Biloxi Bottom of the 6th
Gabriel Noriega flies out to right fielder Daniel Robertson.
Corey Ray homers (13) on a fly ball to left field.
Troy Stokes Jr. flies out to center fielder Ben DeLuzio.
Keston Hiura grounds out, third baseman Josh Prince to first baseman Rudy Flores.

You are correct.

Last year Erceg has a .651 OPS in the first half, and a .796 OPS in the second half.

Let's hope the trend continues.

5 unearned runs given up by the Mudcats contributed to the defeat. Cam Roegner had a poor start going 4 innings and taking the loss. Wuilder Rodriguez and Phil Bickford gave up 7 runs between them. Cooper Hummel and Joantgel Segovia had two hits apiece.

Cam Roegner: 4 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 1 K
Wuilder Rodriguez: 1 2/3 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Obviously it's a small sample, but Bello is off to a great start, in particular with BB/K. The only reason I think this is even worth mentioning is that he's 17. I would expect someone that young to look overmatched out of the gate and certainly to lack any semblance of a mature approach. He has plenty of time to come back to Earth, but the fact that he can do this at all at his age, even over a 55 PA stretch, seems very encouraging.

Final: Idaho Falls 15, Helena 8

Chukars Blow Out Brewers In Series Opener
Helena Allows Season High In Runs & Hits
By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers

Image

Idaho Falls, ID - The Idaho Falls Chukars came into tonight's ballgame with the Helena Brewers as the league's best offense, hitting .304 (1st) as a team and averaging 7.2 runs per game (2nd). Their trends continued against the Brewers, as the Chukars scored 15 runs on 17 hits, both season highs allowed by the Brewers. Helena managed to hit three home runs, but couldn't muster enough to outslug the Chukars, falling 15-8.

Justin Bullock got the first two he faced in the first inning, but back to back singles from Kyle Isbel and Nate Eaton kept the inning alive for Reed Rohlman, who hit a blast to deep right center field, giving Idaho Falls the early 3-0 lead.

Chukars started JC Cloney (W, 5-0) retired the first five that he faced, but then surrendered a solo bomb to Nick Egnatuk in the second, getting the Brewers on the board. In the second, the Brewers got to within a run, as three straight hits plated a run and put two in scoring position with nobody out. Cloney bore down and got the next three, keeping the Chukars in the lead.

The failure to cash in further came back to bite Helena, as Idaho Falls scored twice in the third inning, with the RBIs coming from Eaton and Rohlman. Against Jenri Montas in the fourth, Idaho Falls sent all nine men to the plate, scoring three to extend the lead to 8-2.

David Fry hit a three run homer to cut the deficit in half in the fifth, and the Brewers loaded the bases with two out against Jose Ramirez in the sixth, putting the tying run at first. Ramirez came back to strike out Jean Carmona to end the inning, and spoiling the last good chance the Brewers had to tie the game.

Idaho Falls came back with two in the sixth, and after Pablo Abreu hit a two run homer in the eighth to get Helena back within three, the Chukars put the Brewers away for good with a five run eighth. Reed Rohlman finished the day with 7 RBI, a new career high.

The Brewers look to even the series tomorrow as they send Wilfred Salaman to the hill. Idaho Falls counters with CJ Eldred, the son of Kansas City Royals pitching coach Cal Eldred. First pitch is at 7:15, with the pregame show hitting the airwaves of helenabrewers.net at 7:00.

Helena Box Score

The Brewers came into the game leading the league in team ERA with a 3.82 mark. Not anymore as that balloons to 4.28 after this catastrophe. I actually liked what I saw from Justin Bullock, he's just been prone to blow-up innings this year. He has a solid FB/CH/CB combo with the change looking like it could become a plus pitch.

There's been more consistency on offense lately, which is nice to see. The team got on base 16 times and got 2 home runs from David Fry, and one each from Nick Egnatuk and Pablo Abreu. I'm a big fan of Abreu, so nice to see him show off some power.
