Updates out of Biloxi:

The Biloxi Shuckers, Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, announced a pair of roster moves on Friday prior to their doubleheader against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. RHP Thomas Jankins has been promoted to Triple-A San Antonio and RHP Justin Topa has been added to the Shuckers roster from the Rocky Mountain Vibes.

Jankins moves up to Triple-A for the second time in his career. During the 2018 season, Jankins appeared in one game for Triple-A Colorado Springs, pitching five shutout innings on August 30. The 23-year-old righty earns a promotion after going 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts with the Shuckers this season. Jankins tossed the first complete game of his career on April 7 against Birmingham, allowing one unearned run in seven innings of work while retiring the final 17 batters that he faced. In 2018, Jankins became the first Biloxi Shuckers pitcher ever to win five straight starts and was named a Southern League Midseason All-Star.

In a corresponding move, Topa has been added to the Shuckers pitching staff. A 17th-round pick by the Pirates in 2013 out of LIU Brooklyn, Topa was signed as a minor-league free agent by the Brewers after pitching in the Rangers organization during the 2018 season. Following a four-game stint with the Rockland Boulders of the independent Can-Am League to start the 2018 season, Topa pitched in nine games with the Frisco Roughriders last year, going 2-3 with a 5.71 ERA over six starts and three relief appearances. During his five-year career, Topa has pitched in 88 games, appearing as a reliever in 45 games.

Brewers have reportedly released:

RHP Josh Uhen, their 2013 5th round pick out of UW-Milwaukee. Yet to pitch in 2019 (seventh season in Brewers' system, was scheduled for free agency this fall), Uhen was invited to take part in the Arizona Fall League after the 2016 season. The Brewers made him available to be taken in the minor league phase of last fall's Rule 5 draft, but no team bit. At this moment, the release does not appear to be injury-related (but that's not definitive).

RHP Jayson Rose, their 2017 8th round pick. Rose underwent right shoulder surgery last October. He only made two appearances in 2018, rehab appearances in Maryvale in July.

RHP Tyler Tungate, an undrafted free agent signee last June out of Faulkner University in Alabama. The 23-year-old split 2018 between Maryvale and Helena with decent peripherals.

Best wishes to each.

Via Jerry Briggs in San Antonio:

Stokes sidelined

Missions outfielder Troy Stokes Jr. was placed on the 7-day injured list retroactive to April 26 with cramping in the area of his hamstrings.

"If we were in the big leagues, he'd probably play," Sweet said. "But we're not. I want to get him 100 percent."

Stokes, the Brewers' 13th-rated prospect, has sat out the team's last three games. He had also sat out a two-week stretch with tightness in his left latissimus dorsi.

Per the Shuckers, INF Blake Allemand has been promoted to San Antonio. This will be his first taste of AAA. He's been in Biloxi since the beginning of the 2017 season, amassing 768 PAs in 221 games played.

Might be safe to assume that utility man and extra catcher Skyler Ewing will be transferred back to the Rocky Mountain roster to make room for Allemand, but we'll see.

To fill his spot on the Biloxi roster, RHP Tyler Spurlin has been transferred from the Rocky Mountain roster. When he takes the mound for the Shuckers, it will be his first official inning since 2016 in the AFL. Spurlin has missed time due to Tommy John surgery and then a PED suspension.

Additionally, RHP Tristan Archer is back on the San Antonio roster after being transferred from Rocky Mountain. This is his third stint on the active roster for the Missions this year.

Per a Brewers' PD tweet:

RHP Josh Fields was released from San Antonio after opting out of his contract and asking for his release.

LHP Angel Perdomo promoted from Biloxi to San Antonio.

INF Korry Howell transferred to Wisconsin from Rocky Mountain.

RHP Yohandry Perez transferred to Wisconsin from AZL Gold, where he was on a future contract (i.e., wasn't likely to be playing until this summer in complex ball). The 22-year-old will be making his pro debut with Wisconsin, assuming he pitches.

LHP Wilfred Salaman transferred from Wisconsin to Rocky Mountain and C Kekai Rios transferred from Wisconsin to AZL Gold; both are likely to stay with the Rattlers for the time being.

In addition to news of Jake Petricka and Alex Wilson outrights to AAA, RHP Johan Belisario has been transferred from Rocky Mountain to Biloxi to fill the open roster spot there. Belisario has appeared in five games (including one start) with the Shuckers this year.

The Shuckers' roster is now full, albeit lopsided with 14 pitchers.

Petricka and Wilson have not been activated yet for the Missions.

The Brewers sign a recently-turned 18-year-old RHP out of a Mexican Baseball Academy. Fernando Olguin pitched one game last August in the Mexican League, technically making his professional debut then with an inning and a third of scoreless ball.

This article in Google Translate form follows:

Fernando Olguín signs with Milwaukee Brewers
The pitcher from Tijuana became the 48th prospect to sign with a major league organization, after graduating from the Tijuana Bull Academy

TIJUANA, Baja California (TorosDeTijuana.com-Armando Esquivel) April 30, 2019 - Fernando Olguín from Tijuana became the 48th prospect to graduate from the Tijuana Bullfighting Academy and sign with a Major League organization, by completing the process that makes them a Milwaukee Brewers player.

The 18-year-old right-hander is just the fourth player in Toros de Tijuana to complete the development process, as he made his debut in the Mexican Baseball League on August 17, 2018 in a match against Rieleros de Aguascalientes at the Chevron Stadium. .

His performance was one entry and one third without allowing a career, two hits, three strikeouts and a pair of passports.

"I am very excited and proud of this little step, I move forward and now we have to keep working; everyone's dream is to get to the big leagues, but that is through work and that is my purpose, "said the young pitcher.

The road was difficult for Olguín, however, he spoke about the support he always had from the organization of Toros de Tijuana, which allowed him to get closer to his dream.

"Having the support is invaluable and is the basis to continue forging as a player and as a person; Having the support of Toros de Tijuana is the best thing that can happen to you, "he added.

For his part, Guillermo Armenta, director of development of the border organization, said that in Mexican baseball is happening an interesting phenomenon, to be given regularly signatures of players of late ages.

"The teams are giving the opportunity to boys of 18 or 19 years like Fernando Olguín; in his case, Milwaukee was following him since last year and he is a boy who has a powerful straight and physically is fit for that level, "he explained.

Toros de Tijuana is the team with the most signings with major league teams in the last five years and Armenta said that these days will be announced more names of young players exported to baseball in the United States.

Extreme minutia - RHP Gabe Friese activated from Carolina's 7-day DL and then transferred to Rocky Mountain. So from not active to... still not active. Friese faced one batter for the Mudcats this year, walked him, and then left the game with an injury.
