Freitas 2 more hits .383 .468

Corey Ray 4 more Ks, gonna be tough to trade moving forward, what a disastrous draft pick.

I can see how someone would come to that conclusion only by looking at the draft position and production to this point, but I would argue it was more a case of being a disastrous draft to have a high pick in. There seem to be a few nice arms in the mix but I'm not sure 2016 was one of the better drafts of the past 10 years.

I have a difficult time understanding why they haven't given the guy at least a cup of coffee. I think those AAA stats are largely a mirage, but at some point the guy's numbers are so other-worldly that there has to be some substance to them.

No mirage, watching this guy hit, which I’ve been doing the last couple weeks, he’s a great hitter, doesn’t strike out, doesn’t have great power, but puts the bat on the ball, like Grisham, with authority. Juiced ball not helping him as much as other AAA sluggers, I’m convinced if given 300+ AB’s he’ll hit .300 in the big leagues. Him and Pina are gonna do just fine next year as our C’s

Looking that the batting numbers that sub-middling hitters like Spangenberg, Saladino, Orf, Dubon, Shaw and Hager have put up this year in AAA tells me that hitting stats at that level are very much a mirage. It tells me that not only is the ball likely juiced, it doesn't break like it should, either, which is basically putting it on a tee for these guys. A juiced ball helps more than just power hitters.

Ray's had a lot of injuries over two of the last three years.

The 2018 Ray was very good. It's also the only year he was healthy.

Brewers only had seven baserunners and no extra-base hits, but the pitchers led the way.

Just-turned 20-year-old 2nd-year-pro Dominican RHP Alexis Ramirez is being groomed as a starter (29 of 30 pro appearances), and he shined here (9 K's, 0 BB's in 5.2 IP).

LHP Pablo Garabitos and RHP Eddy Tavarez combined with Ramirez to fan 17 and walk none.

Sure, seven hits allowed, but this has to be one of the top 5-to-10 best pitched games in the entire organization in 2019.

Gold on Gold crime.

Well, this was the best-pitched game against the organization all season.

AZL Brewers Gold Top of the 1st

Abimael Gonzalez strikes out swinging. Abimael Gonzalez to 1st. Wild pitch by pitcher Charles Hall.

AZL Brewers Gold Top of the 4th

Abimael Gonzalez singles on a line drive to center fielder Ramon Martinez.
Passed ball by catcher Matt Cross. Abimael Gonzalez to 2nd.
Wild pitch by pitcher Charles Hall. Abimael Gonzalez to 3rd.
Zane Zurbrugg strikes out on a foul tip.
Jesus Chirinos strikes out swinging.
Matthew Mika strikes out swinging.

That was the Gold Crew's only hit, and didn't that inning end well.

So, two baserunners, and one was a gift.

Seventeen strikeouts.

Yikes.

30th round RHP Peyton Long gets credit for four innings of scoreless relief.

Celebrate!

DSL Indians/Brewers Bottom of the 9th

Henyer Gomez walks.
Missed catch error by first baseman Omar Matos on the pickoff attempt, assist to pitcher Luis Peralta. Henyer Gomez to 2nd.
Luis Valderrama flies out to center fielder Fleury Nova.
Lahiorne Diaz pops out to first baseman Omar Matos in foul territory.
Francisco Gonzalez doubles (3) on a line drive to left fielder Luis Tello. Henyer Gomez scores.

***

Only Brewer pitcher was 18-year-old RHP Deybi Arias, three innings of one-run ball, charged with a blown save but also the beneficiary of the win on his ledger.

17-year-old 2B/3B Angel Bautista, DH'ing here, was 2-for-3 with a walk. His triple was only his 2nd extra-base hit (35 singles). Bautista is a young 17 (last April), and the overall numbers and ratios in that context look pretty darn good.

18-year-old C/1B (1B here) Luis Valderrama 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI.

As you saw in the box, contributions on offense from all nine spots, even in a seven-inning game.

17-year-old RH starter Brailin Rodriguez, but two bullpen buddies did just enough to hang on.

Alejandro Marte homers (7) on a fly ball to left field. Jhonnys Cabrera scores.

The 17-year-old catcher Cabrera (first base in this one) also doubled twice. Marte also doubled and would drive in three.

It won't go down as a quality start, but 18-year-old RHP Kleiber Bordones got through six innings with that run support and netted the win.
