Based on all the replays i've seen so far, i'll go to my grave believing the tag was whiffed and Morgan was safe. I'm shocked/annoyed at BA sounding so definite that out was a bad call and we caught a break. Throw beat him, but tag looked like it was missed. Safe.

EDIT: how have I missed this replay you guys speak of. I'll back up the dvr, but i've been watching closely.

Summing up the last play...our MVP puts up a weak pop up to the MVP runner up and gold glover who misplays the catch and throws weakly to the plate where our pinch runner goes through a stop sign and flops weirdly upon the plate in such an awkward manner it confused the ump into blowing the call. As beautiful of a game as last night was, that was some awful baseball tonight on that last play. At least we won.

Braun was coughing all night....I bet he is sick which may have contributed to his bad night at the plate.

Congrats to Kameron on picking up the W. His grandfather passed away yesterday and I'm sure that win means a lot to his family.

The angle that's shown the most makes it look like Morgan was never tagged. The catcher's glove is hidden, then when it emerges as Morgan scores, you see what appears to be a failed swipe because it appears to miss Morgan's butt.

I'd like to see another angle, but it looks like he's safe on that angle, unless the catcher tagged him on the foot long before the failed swipe at the butt

Yeah. Came here to post this after watching the sac pop up a few times. He doesn't look well as he's walking away from the group.

Well, the next time the Brewers get hosed in a critical point of a game, we'll have to remember this game ending play. Sure looked like a butt tag to me, but that was with the benefits of hindsight and the one camera angle.

Watching Sedar put up the stop sign and then look resigned was hilarious, though easier to take since the call went the Brewers' way.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

You guys must be getting different angles. They showed one angle 2 or 3 times from the 3rd base side looking into home plate where you see Ellis drop the mit on nyjers butt very, very clearly.

I just watched every replay over again. Im 100% confident the catcher missed the tag. The one angle that looks like a tag is just the awkward way the catcher lunges and his motion is stopped trying to apply the tag and hiring the dirt. Every other angle shows no contact between glove and player. I think the ump made a great call, a rare case of not being swayed purely by the timing of the throw beating the runner.

Agree to disagree I guess. I'm just as confident he was tagged, but either way I'll take it!

There is no reason that there shouldn't be replay on a call of that magnitude.

Also, I thought he was tagged.

I frame-by-framed it on DVR, It appears that Morgan was grazed on the buttocks for a very short period of time, right before he rolled over. There really isn't a definitive view of if the mitt ever touched his pants, but by the way his pants imprinted at contact it would appear he was out. Way closer than it should have been, though. With a good throw he's out by 10 feet.

Either way, win!! [smile]

When BA saw the particular replay that made him think we got lucky, I agreed that it looked like a tag. I just watched the same replay on brewers.com and am not nearly as certain.

Still, a decent throw and Morgan is out by a mile and looks foolish for blowing through the stop sign.

I actually think he missed it too, I've watched it several times from every angle they showed. Looked like he was just late with the glove and whiffed.

Very similar to last nights play at the plate.

Another interesting point about that play, if Nyjer slides head first I think there's no debate and he's plenty safe. Why the feet first slide??

(by sliding head first, you can route your body way off to the side, with feet first you can't as much)

Yeah a good head first hook slide to the inside part of the plate would've made it a lot less close.

Rock was right, that was a terrible throw from Kemp.

I really thought Morgan was out. After seeing it again on ESPN, he looked out. Oh well for the Dodgers.

Nope, you're 100% right. If you watch the angle from down the 3B line, you can clearly see the tag impacted against Morgan's butt. Then, based on where the tag was applied from that angle, you can combine it with the angle looking down at HP from the media area, & you can see Morgan was out by a considerable amount (given the circumstances). I'm really surprised the ump missed that call, but of course we have the luxury of slo-mo replay.

EDIT: Fwiw, like thablingster, I watched it frame-by-frame on DVR

Kemp played that horrendously. He got under the ball way too much, so he ended up throwing flat-footed, rather than having his momentum going towards home plate (and he plenty of time to do so). He also caught the ball far to his left with his without having his throwing hand in position to quickly retrieve the ball from his glove. So much fail.

And he definitely moved back as the ball was in flight to get into throwing position. I think that's what made it most painful to me.
