You just knew Jeffress would never come up with that weak grounder.

Love the Drake, lol.

In seriousness, he's about the last guy I want out there. Glad he got that out but now I'm sure they'll try to get another inning from him and I'm not exactly comfortable with it.

Cards taking care of business like the Cards do at this time of the year. So annoying. Just fall apart already.

They believe something "magical" and "special" is happening right now. We forget how annoying they are.

Thames is pretty much Gorman Thomas and/or Rob Deer, except when those two homered there were actually runners on base.

Rob Deer was actually a pretty good player at least as a batter.

What I meant to say was Thames either homers or strikes out. An all or nothing hitter. Just like Gorman and Deer.

Or walks, which is what Deer also did and what makes them a valuable hitter. Power and OBP is pretty valuable. Thames is hitting .240 but OBP is .340. That's good enough for me. OPS+ is 119. That is a valuable hitter.

Cole just carved up Braun and Shaw when we could've really used a run. Guy is good.

So what has Thames done since the beginning of May that you would consider valuable?

Also if you wanted to play that game you would pretty much cut everyone on the team based on the last two months with the exceptions of Shaw and Santana.

What about May, June and August? Without April, his year would be pathetic and he might be out a job in 2018.

I guess we get to cherry pick which months count and which ones don't.

Not sure who is behind the plate tonight, but I'm certain he's had a better night.

I keep seeing things like this. So what, we should move on from a guy that is capable of putting up video game numbers because he's hasn't done well during certain months? He has his flaws, sure. But it's really his first full season in the pros. We would be very foolish to just give up on him right now. Very foolish.

His OPS for the year is 11th in major league baseball for all first basemen.

Post all star break his OPS 698 right below Chris Davis at .700 and a few spots above Miguel Cabrera .625. I'm assuming Baltimore and Detroit are planning on DFA'ing those two guys over the winter too.

Who is suggesting we just give up on him now?

The point is, his April was sick, absolutely video game material, but since then, outside of a decent July, he has been nothing more than average to below average. Not suggesting we give up on him, cut him, or anything like that, just stating what has happened.

Hopefully, if we have a chance to trade him for something decent, or have the chance to pick up a full time replacement at 1B this off season, we do it, and not think that April will ever happen again. It might, but there is a better chance that it does not...

Of COURSE there's a better chance of something historic NOT happening than happening. Otherwise records would get broken much more regularly!

Wow, just digested that Thames has 29 home runs and 55 RBIs. What is the record for fewest RBIs in a 30 home run season? This has to be close, yes?

Which makes his OPS such an overrated joke of an argument. Who cares that his slugging percentage is so high when his 29 home runs are almost all solo shots?

Just turned on the game and read through the thread. I assumed the bolded comment was in jest until I read the follow ups. Looks like Briggs opened a second account.
