great W. Get it tomorrow. We should have the P advantage. Jeffress ready to go tomorrow, maybe Hader available too. Get it done.

Back in first. Let’s win this series tomorrow and set the tone for the homestand.

I'm glad to see that even though the Brewers were collectively quaking in their boots and knew that the Cubs had their number and there was no way they could ever beat them, they somehow managed to pull through and shut them out. The fragile ego of the MLB player should have denied them the win but somehow against insurmountable odds they persevered.

Haha We are in their heads now!

Pretty sure this team bounced off the mat .. now this is where we need to swing this into momentum and take a series from the Cubs tomorrow. It’s not a ‘must win’ this early in the year but it would pay dividends as the year progresses , just like letting Chase go pitch the 7th will for him...

And two forgotten bullpen pieces - Williams and Barnes- you forget how electric their stuff is with JJ CK and Hader... my goodness

Tough thing for this game is no Hader for rest of this series......Corey probably can't pitch tomorrow....and now have to use JJ too....

Good thing Chase is gonna give us a strong 8 tomorrow

From last night's game thread, after the Cubs tied it on Hader. I was off by an inning, but still shoulda played the lottery [wink]

Great post. It's like we all forget they went to Wrigley and swept them last September to get back in the race.

So basically his couple of game winning hits makes him look better in that stat because of how random baseball is. Not buying it. Same way I'm not buying the Mariners being a good team just because they have an insane record in one run games.

Braun has driven in 20.91% of possible runners this season, 7th of 209 batters who have come to the plate with at least 100 runners on base.

Bryant is at 12.88%, 140th in the same sample.

Bryant came up in 2015. In that time frame 110 batters have come to the plate with at least 1,000 runners on base. Bryant has driven in 14.31% of runners, 82nd in the sample.

Despite being a much worse hitter, Braun is at 17.42%, 8th in the same sample.

It isn't all random. Over large samples different players display different skill at driving runners in. So far Bryant's ability to convert base runners to runs scored hasn't lived up to his context neutral marks.

Again, I'm not trying to say Braun is better than Bryant. Just that making determinations based solely on context neutral data leaves out quite a bit of information in a context dependent game.

If you aren't buying on the Mariners does that mean you similarly aren't buying on the Brewers as a good team because of their insane record in one run games?

Maybe the Brewers wives 10-3 drubbing of the Cubs wives has reversed the players psyche. If the Brewers go on to dominate the series for the remainder of the year I think it will be the only logical conclusion we can draw.

It's just nice to send a mass of fanboys home down I-94 with a bagel to chew on, with really limited periods during the game for Cub fans to actually get excited or hopeful about winning the game.

Now if only WisDOT would get smart and reduce southbound traffic along I-94 down to one lane along a shoulder littered with rumble strips right around the 7th inning stretch, we'd have ourselves a perfect night! They could just have huge construction signs blinking 'FIBs - Expect Painful Traffic Delays - Now It's Just Like Going to a Game at Wrigley'.

Large samples are not what you are discussing here, you are discussing insanely small samples. I think teams somewhat control their win loss rates in 1 run games based mostly on how good their bullpen is. But going 21-9 involves some luck too. WPA is a stat that needs like 2 or 3 seasons of data to be meaningful, not 1/3 of a season.

Ace Chase! Shaw with the RBIs. Bullpen does its job. Cubbie fans go home winless. Great game!

Oh how we have missed this Chase Anderson. This Chase Anderson is the ace we need.

Guerra hasn’t been enough ace for ya?

Guerra has been great, but his success doesn't eliminate the need we have for Chase to get back to who he was.

Either Chase getting back to who he was or Nelson returning to 2017 form would be enormous for our chances this year.

Guerra has been great and Chacin has been good, but we need more than those two.

I think the Brewers might have kept Sogard around because they needed his wife (a former college softball player who is about 6 months pregnant) for this game.

Wait, some people don't think Braun saved a HR? He caught it above the yellow line.

Are you talking about Monday night's game? Braun did steal that one. He had a nice game defensively.

If this is the Chase we'll see going forward, Nelson returns to forum, Guerra continues to pitch like he has AND the addition of Chacin we'll have one hell of a rotation in the second half of the season. [smile]

In addition to proving that great teams never get shut out and make defensive errors like the Brewers do!
