Gamel and Perez are two almost perfect National League bench players--at least for what one could reasonably hope for.

Yes.
Gamel for Santana just another great stearns trade.

Plus we got Zavolas, who is doing really well in Carolina. Davies-like repertoire, velocity maybe a tick or two higher.

Just checked on Santanas stats. His hot start has him at .269 with 11 dingers but he is 11 for his last 63(.175).

I think it just took AL pitchers a while to figure out how to pitch him(up and in).

Can't believe one of the worst relievers in baseball slammed the door on the Nats.

"You're not going to have him when you want him and you're going to run out of games. He can't pitch 90 games. It's just not going to work. If anyone thinks it's going to work, show me how."- Craig Counsell on Josh Hader.

I know what you're saying, but Gamel is not a bench player.

Between Guerra being terrible and Jeffress being a disaster, we get the best horribly thought-out hot takes around here.

Agreed. In the NL, you don't really have bench players. You need think about and use your entire 25 man pretty much every game.

The Mariners got what they wanted in the Santana/Gamel deal and so did we. I don't think either side is a loser. Santana was a nice bat pickup for them and part of the reason they have the #1 scoring offense in baseball.

Well, that too. But Gamel is actually a starter vs RHP, which is most of the time.

You'll have to go read yesterday's game thread. Or was it Saturday's marathon game thread?

What a difference 4 games make. This was a big win-to beat Scherzer in the opener is huge. Although basically the Nats lost today and we played competent baseball--which is what good, playoff bound teams do.

Just a little good natured jab at a certain someone who will go off on anyone who merely suggests that Guerra has been a good pitcher this year. [wink]

Nothing, Bucks and Brewers both won, but they suck and all their players suck. Or something like that.
