The Brewers don’t have many at-bats against the 24 year old Reds starter, Tyler Mahle, but Eric Thames has a nice line facing him in just 6 plate appearances (2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 BB).

Doesn’t Eric Thames have a nice line against the reds period?

Mahle has very strong splits against RHB. For sure load up the lefties today.

Grandal
Yelich
Moose
Braun/Cain
Thames
Hiura
Gamel
P
Saladino/Arcia

I would put the gimmick of Grandal leading off to rest and put Gamel in the leadoff spot. The problem with the Brewers offense last week was that virtually nobody was hitting (including Yelich and Grandal), not the order in which guys were making out.

Putting low percentage hitters like Arcia and Saladino in the ninth spot doesn’t do much either. Having the pitcher come up earlier offsets whatever value there might be.

Of course if Arcia and Saladino are hitting about as good as any pitcher this side of Woody what difference does it make? [wink]

Why is it a gimmick? Because hes not fast? He had the highest OBP on the team outside of Yelich(and Thames slightly). The goal should be...get more guys on base in front of Yelich. Grandal leading off does that.

Quick question...

So we DFA Hernán Pérez, nobody claimed him within 72 hours and he is still listed on (unreliable I know) Wikipedia as “in the Milwaukee Brewers organiation”, yet I don’t see him on any of our farm rosters. Do we still have him or not?

Probably not because in the end Perez can decline staying with the Brewers.

Not playing Braun in Cincy is pretty dumb but continuing to bat Cain in the top half of the lineup is ridiculous. Accountability for some but not all is the Brewers mantra this season.

I’ll defer to someone who follows these rules more closely, but I think the Brewers have 7 days from the date of the DFA to trade, release, or send Perez outright to the minors. Perez could elect to not accept an assignment to the minors and become a free agent. So, as of today, he still is part of the Brewer organization but he is not on the 40 man Brewers roster or of any of its affiliates. Something will have to happen by the end of the week.

I wonder if Cain will be going on the DL after today so he can rest and heal up and be ready to return next Friday after the break.

I don't like the back to back lefties, especially when they won't be pinch hit for (Yelich and Moose). Putting Grandal or Braun or Hiura between them makes the most sense.

The best lineup SHOULD be:
Cain
Yelich
Grandal
Moose/Thames
Braun/Hiura
Thames/Moose
Braun/Hiura
Arcia/Saladino
P

Yelich, Moose and Thames should be batting 1-3-5 or 2-4-6 in some combination.

Yelich and Moose are hitting lefty pitchers better than any of our RH batters. If the Reds throw a lefty reliever against them, more power to them.

Im probably the only guy who doesn't get too worked about a lineup. When you come up do your job

But....

Stop with the pitcher 8th.
