Games like this really make you understand how important Knebel was to this team.

He was but there is just so much going wrong this year. Like everything besides Yelich and Moose. It's honestly a bit shocking they are still above .500. It feels like they should be a lot worse than that.

At best this team is a wild card game winner.

"You're not going to have him when you want him and you're going to run out of games. He can't pitch 90 games. It's just not going to work. If anyone thinks it's going to work, show me how."- Craig Counsell on Josh Hader.

And people say the calls go both ways, blah blah blah. How much different is this game if that's called correctly and Yelich bats. For starters, Holland gets used...that alone is good for the Brewers. And a very mediocre lefty against the MVP...

the plate umpire certainly had a night similar to the Brewers relievers.

This team is not that bad. Its been a second half team the last 2 years, a pen arm or two acquired at the deadline, a couple of call-ups, and we’re in business.

They're running out of time to find that recipe, tough. Can it happen? Sure. But a team with the line-up talent this team has should be better than it has been. They took a lot of chances on the pitching staff, and for the most part those haven't worked out.

If you're a wild card winner you can be a world series winner. It's baseball.

Personally don't think this team gets even close. They are gassed, with a bunch of mediocre horses fighting like hell, but they just aren't good enough. I don't think they'll win 80 games by the time fatigue sets in.

Probably so. They do have nearly three weeks to see where the cards fall (no pun intended), but they're likely going to have to decide whether pursuit of that ceiling is even realistic and worth emptying what's left of the farm, or whether reloading makes more sense.

Considering their run differential is like minus 15 now it's amazing they're not in the cellar

On edit... It's now -20.

This team was very good in April and May. They were underwhelming in June and have gone downhill even more in July. That obviously isn't a good trend.

A lot of this is on Counsell as well...always pulling the starter so damn early...especially Chase...he worries too damn much about a guy facing a lineup for the third time...if a dude is rolling, he's rolling. Besides, can the starter going through a LU a 3rd time be any worse than sending it to the bullpen??

I was on the train of no playoffs this year for aheywhile. This team reminds me of the Roenicke one that fell completely apart in the second half and finished under 500. A couple more weeks but I think they win 78.

Can't wait for a automated strike zone. They don't give a albers a close pitch on 3-2 count . Who knows how that could change the way he pitches to the next batter. Lol. And Cain get called out on a close pitch, it was a ball according to foxtrac or whatever it is. Don't know if it would matter but umpiring sucks.

I still say the single biggest mistake made in the last 3 years was letting DJ go and replacing him with a triple A guy with no big league experience.

Totally agree. I think I was the first post or one of the first who was super bummed he was leaving. Just got results from mediocrity.

Brewcrewin07, I honestly don't know what you are looking for them to do. They are not one big trade away from contention. Stearns cannot wave a magic wand and fix every problem on this team. They could trade every useful prospect and still wouldn't have nearly as good of a team as the Dodgers. They cannot add much for payroll. They simply aren't in a great position to contend.

They can add payroll, don't believe that freaking fallacy...Get a TOR arm, a couple of lights out bullpen arms and how different does this team suddenly look??

I don't buy into the DJ thing. Letting Miley walk for $4.5 million blew my mind at the time and now. I don't know what the hell he was thinking.
