Bringing in the closer with two outs in the 8th is something Ned Yost refused to do.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

This is why it's silly to hold your challenges because you'll be "out of them" late. If you go the umpire, "I want to look at that," he's going to look at it.

I'm not supremely confident in Hader lately. Feel much better when Pomeranz is in the game.

Picking up two or three insurance runs would be very calming right now.

Shaw didn't make a very strong case for a playoff roster spot today. I think if they go by the season body of work and the lack of defensive versatility he probably gets left out.

He could have gone 4 for 5 today and I still wouldn't want him on the playoff roster.

No I agree that's probably the right call. There was some discussion on it earlier so I just figured I'd mention it.

Now with an 0-3 with a BB, Shaw has a .154 batting average with 267 PAs.

In MLB history among players with at least 267 PAs in a season, only 9 players have had a lower batting average than Shaw this year. There have been 26,571 player-seasons with at least 267 PAs.

I mean Shaw is barely even making contact at this point.

I wonder if Shaw's eyes are going bad? Maybe he needs Lasik.

I dunno. I remember that being a huge Bill Hall thing after a struggling year where he got Lasik and said it would completely change things for him and he couldn't believe how different he was seeing now and then he went out and had a worse year.

Just keep taking care of business in Colorado. Hopefully they get some help from the Cubs and they can make a play for the division.

I am kind of sad for Brennaman. But not enough to have wanted to drop the last game today.

Great win considering long night last night and Castillo pitching. Unbelievable job.
