If you don’t sign an MVP to an extension when he’s willing to stick around, you don’t want to see winning baseball. You want to see mediocre players win 75 games and light up the chat rooms about the prospects who are coming in 2-3 years. Plain and simple.

Its called cycling talent and it has to be done by small markets to sustain success. This team cannot afford to be paying 20 million or more to guys on their last legs. As great as Braun was during his first extension the second one was a mistake and that will probably be the case with Yelich.

As long as their is no salary cap and I am hopeful that the small markets will hang together to get one in the next agreement teams like the Brewers cannot allocate 20 million dollars a season to any player that is not productive. Hopefully starting next season Yelich will be back to an MVP level but its no sure thing.

Too many people seem to just be willing to throw out all stats for 2020 if they are bad. If thats the thinking why shouldn't we throw out the seasons of Burnes and Williams since this is such an unusual season. Fact is who knows what is an anomaly and what is the start of a trend. Hopefully Yelich is struggling because of the knee but we dont if that is the reason.

This team can be quite exhausting. Lets get back at it and win the series tomorrow and then follow it up by taking it to the Cardinals.

I think I remember reading somewhere that Yelich is sort of a film room junkie. Perhaps not being able to utilize the film room between at-bats this season is playing a part in his down season?

Who was that MVP player on the Royals when they won it all a few years ago?

Anomaly’s happen. Royals have had 4 winning seasons in the last 30 years and are one of the main examples of teams unwilling to pay for talent and trading it away.

Counter: If you sign an MVP to a contract extension and then don’t spend money putting players around him you just end up winning 75 games anyways.

I have a feeling some folks here are unhappy with Yelich's contract because he doesn't seem to have it this year. When he is playing at an MVP level nobody complains.

I just hope he HAS another MVP level season.
Seems like everytime the Brewers have ever handed out a big contract it blew up in their face
