Just when I thought that "getting kicked in the jimmies" feeling that came after the Bucks were unceremoniously dismissed in the second round of the playoffs, failing to reach the NBA Finals with the best record in the NBA for the second year in a row, couldn't possibly be topped, the Brewers courageously stepped to the plate.

"Hold my beer."

Thank you. Getting no hit by the Cubs was just what I needed. And then there was this cherry on top of the sundae:

The Cubs have thrown 2 no-hitters at Miller Park.

The Brewers have thrown 0.

So, what could possibly happen today, in this wackiest of seasons, gentlemen?

On September 9th, the Brewers beat the Detroit Tigers 19-0 in the stadium that Al Kaline built (well, not really. But that would certainly class up Comerica Park). Corbin Burnes took a no hitter into the 5th. The Brewers ultimately outhit Detroit 21-2. The offense that has slumbered all season long suddenly looks like the Brewers of 2011. I could almost see Brauny and Prince going back to back. And, I literally said after the game, "I wish we could have saved some of those hits. We might need them tomorrow." I was only off by a few days.

Four days later, at home, against the hated Cubs, we get no hit. By a guy with a 4.74 ERA. A guy that, before tossing 6 innings of shutout ball against the Reds, had given up 21 earned runs in 24 innings over his last five starts. A 7.66 ERA.

That's not quite "getting beaten by a 42 year old Zamboni driver that's your team's employee" bad, but it's not far off.

Maybe Christian Yelich will look like his old self again. One can dream, right?

There are three things America will be known for 2000 years from now when they study this civilization: the Constitution, jazz music and baseball. They're the three most beautifully designed things this culture has ever produced. Gerald Early

If the Brewers won both of their games today they would end the day currently in position for the #6 playoff seed. That seems wild.

I can actually see the Brewers ROFLStomping the Cards on all their games.

Take their (playoff) cookie away from them.

More Or Less Completely Made Up Outcome Odds For Remaining Ten Games Against Cardinals

10-0 | 1% STL | 1% MKE
9-1 | 2% STL | 1% MKE
8-2 | 9% STL | 6% MKE
7-3 | 12% STL | 8% MKE
6-4 | 15% STL | 10% MKE
5-5 | 35%

Pretty much need to go 6-4 at worst to have a shot at the postseason.

Why is Narvaez starting the first game vs a LHP?

My only guess is they prefer Nottingham with Burnes.

I think that is probably it. Narvaez has hit LHP better than he’s hit RHP this year, but it’s a minuscule sample and not his career norm.

It would’ve made more sense to start Burnes game 1 then

Man, Hiura's pitch recognition just seems off. He is hacking. It's a sweet swing, but he needs more time.

If Lindblom can get through this inning unscathed I would pull him.

That would be a dumb idea. With a double header today having your first starter only go 3 innings is just a dumb idea as you will be down at least 3 pitchers for game 2. You are basically burning through your bullpen for no reason at all Ned Yost is that you?

That was a perfectly located throw to get Bader.

Now Goldschmidt basically just had a second at bat against him and will lead off next inning.

One advantage to sending Burnes for the first game would’ve been if he lasted 7 innings you would have a good idea of how many relievers you had available to backfill the Lindblom start with.

That was a nice tag by Hiura. Let the ball fall right in his glove on top of the runners back rather than snatching it and pulling it toward the runner. the throw moves faster than a snatch and tag.

Is it weird that watching this offense makes me optimistic for next year? On account of "these guys cannot all be this bad"?
