Is he that stud centerfielder we've been hoping for?

Reports indicate Verlander isn't going anywhere.

Who will be the winner of the Nicasio waiver claim? I would think he would be picked up by a contending team.

It's got to be the Marlins or Cardinals. I'd be elated if he made it to us.

Yeah the Marlins would surely get him. Here's hoping though. Swap out nicasio for one of our lousy 3.

Should find out today about Niasco. Marlins or Cardinals have first crack among the fringe contenders, they have the same record so not sure which one gets first dibs.

It feels almost impossible that those two teams, amongst others, would allow him to move up the chain to a team like us, or the Cubs. One can hope but it just doesn't feel realistic.

I saw an article for the Rockies yesterday claiming they think Niasco will fall to Colorado. I thought, no way, because he'd have to get past us for that to happen, and no way are we not putting in a claim.

I would be furious if he did, not only because it would mean we missed an obvious and free bullpen upgrade, but also let him go to one of the main, if not the main team that we're vying for a playoff spot against.

I really have no idea what to think of Nicasio. The other thread about him everyone said there's no way the Pirates would trade him in fact they should resign him. Days later the Pirates are giving him away for free.

All I really need to think about him is that he's easily better than Carlos Torres. That's plenty good enough for me.

Very active day so far today. My hunch is we make a move before the end of the day, hopefully to acquire more bullpen help.

Nicasio didnt get past the Phillies? [laughing]

At least the Cards/Marlins didn't get a sniff of him either.

I see that the Tigers are open to trading Verlander now... Giddy up!

Sort of a weird move for the Phillies. 600K for a month when they're not going anywhere this year anyway

But yeah, at least he's not going to a different contender.

That move by the Phillies reminds me of some people in fantasy football. Oh well.

Latest on MLBTradeRumors is that the Astros and Cubs have talked to Detroit and the Tigers have not moved at all on their demands for Verlander. Hard to believe that Stearns wouldn't have been willing to meet the asking price in July but would be willing to meet it tonight (especially with another month off the calender).
