I know it is a business but why argue over 400k with your "ace" pitcher? Seems so minimal to go through this process and tick off your best pitcher.

Agreed. $6.5M or $6.9M? Isn't that the sort of deal usually settled before the hearing for $6.7M, and your star pitcher is happy...

Sounds like he's not as thick-skinned as he claims to be, and will be out of there the first chance he gets...

My only guess as to why you quibble with him is that it's possible behind closed doors that Stroman cold've kept bumping it up and up and up if the Blue Jays didn't dig in. I'm not 100% sure of how things go leading up to arbitration, but it's possible that when they talked settlement prices, it was around $6 million and then he just kept going up and up and up knowing the PR hit of battling with your star player until they said "let's settle this in arbitration" and they presented the most recent numbers they were at, which the Blue Jays won.

Anyways, I agree that you don't really quibble over that much with one of your star players, just searching maybe for a reason why.

A lot of teams now practice "file & trial." Once they get to the point where they exchange numbers, there is no more negotiation. I believe the Brewers do this, I'm sure Agent39 could provide more insight.

I don't think I've ever seen that close in offer and ask for that high a price. I'd think Arbitrators wondered why are we here and you two hadn't settled for 6.7 or 6.75mil. Waste of our time.

According to HH, JD to Boston has slightly increased our odds of acquiring Stro at the deadline.

These are the comments I’m lost on with this. Who knows who will be players at the deadline.

Yeah, there's A LOT that can happen between now and the end of July. I don't think acquiring Martinez makes the Red Sox a favorite. That seems like a pretty big stretch, but who knows?

He's said we've talked to Jays, M's, Tigers on Stroman, Paxton, Fulmer about making deadline deals.

To be fair, HH19 does sometimes express opinion, and I suspect that's what this is. This deal makes it harder for the Jays to stay in the race so, if that's true, the Jays may be more willing to sell at the deadline.

Did he happen to remember the New York Yankees play in the AL East?

I took HH's tweet as that Boston just got better, so the odds that the Jays are in contention come July 31, are slimmer. Thus making it a greater chance that they may be interested in dealing Stroman. Just my 2 cents

Well that's what it was. You guys need to improve your ability to see the difference between leaks and his added opinion. ;-)

Reported on mlb.com that Stroman is shut down with shoulder inflammation. No timetable for his appearance during spring training...

Just keeping him fresh for an early "CC" like trade. [wink]

Combine that with Burnes coming in as the "1992 Cal Eldred" for half a year.

To steal a line, Why not the Brewers?

Bummer, I really like Stroman. Not saying that we are or that we would trade for him, just that I like to watch him pitch.

This is precisely why I'm so against putting all the eggs in one basket and trading multiple assets for a pitcher at this point in the season. Imagine how deflating this would have been had the Brewers just acquired Stroman

Sounds like he would probably be back after maybe missing two weeks, so I don't see it being a big deal.
