Well Greinke did basically call Grandal the perfect catcher. A reunion on the horizon? Seems very unlikely with the financials involved, but it also wouldn’t be the first time a move came out of left field.

Well, no one really saw the Grandal move coming. Stearns really seems to enjoy operating in the shadows when it comes to player interest and potential moves.

No idea who this guy is an probably merit-less and I feel bad giving it attention since I don't know who he is but it's the offseason so...

He's a pretty prominent member of #BrewersTwitter, and has (not recently) "broken" news before. It's easy to be dismissive, but take it for what you think it's worth.

If it was 2011 Greinke then sure. Or a true ace level pitcher (IDK say Kluber as a somewhat available guy) now I could see them 'overspending' if they think that's the last piece needed. But for current Greinke it just doesn't make sense.

Obviously age and the potential decline associated with that is piss le....but Greinke was pretty good last year. An All Star and honestly still an ace. You are pretty darn generous if you are projecting two of our guys to be better than him next year. You could argue he would be our Ace.

That being said the financials and his age are way to complicated for our current payroll structure.

I'd love to re-acquire him.

Rather deal for Robbie Ray if Arizona is dealing starters

After the Grandal deal, I highly highly doubt that the Brewers have the cash to make a Grienke trade.

If the Brewers want to do anything major the rest of the off-season I think Thames and/or Anderson need to be dealt first.

In fact, if I had to guess, I would bet Stearns is trying to shed some salary so that he can fix the 2nd base mess.

I'm a big Greinke fan, would love to see him back. I don't think Brewers would be looking to take on this much money though.

2nd base is not that bad even if they go with a platoon.

This idea was pretty much said verbatim before the Grandal deal as well. I didn’t believe it to be the case then, and don’t now. The Brewers don’t operate under a hard cap or budget. If there is value in an acquisition, they’ll make it. There is no evidence otherwise.

I remember Greinke’s fastball velocity being down at the start of last season (high-80’s), but it looks like it bounced back slightly. Still the past two years have been by far the lowest average fastball velocities of his career (fourseam and sinker).

I would be shocked if this happens. I just don't think the money is there. But someone could legitimately say that Attanasio would only be really, really pushing the payroll for this season, as they will shed Grandal's salary after this season and a good chunk of Braun's money the season after that (still have to pay a notable buyout).

Mark A could happily pay money... and make the D-Backs pay in other ways (prospects).

I see no problem with taking on Greinke's full salary, provided Arizona hands over C Andy Yerzy, 1B Pavin Smith, LHP Alex Young, and OF Jake McCarthy.

I'm not sure this has a great chance of happening, either, but it's not my money and Greinke's still one heck of a pitcher.

I like Greinke, but I'm not biting on this. If it shows up from a more reputable source, then I'll be interested enough to share my opinion...

Not that anyone cares to hear it of course... [laughing]

I wouldn't mind doing this deal if it's true, Greinke is a very good starting pitcher.

Here's what I'd push for:

Diamondbacks get:
RHP Chase Anderson
OF Trent Grisham
C Mario Feliciano

Brewers get:
RHP Zach Greinke (and take on ALL salary)
LHP Alex Young
1B Pavin Smith
C Andy Yerzy
