Davis makes sense for the Brewers only if there’s a DH long term. He’s horrible at 3rd. Like Ryan Braun horrible at 3rd.

I do not believe Josh Hader will be traded. He is controlled for a few more years and the returns offered by other teams will not be worth losing a key piece of the bullpen.

Haha, no. Like PF said, Davis is a DH. He's positionally flexible in that you can put him in LF or 3B, but he stinks in either spot. Gimenez is interesting but doesn't really fill a need. And Oswalt is pretty much just a warm body.

I'd agree on Gimenez. He seems to be a solid defensive 3B, with the potential to be a good middle IF. Problem is, his bat projects like a middle IF. If he had Davis's potential with the bat, he's a legit get, but with that profile the Mets wouldn't trade him.

There's a lot of issues I have with Davis beyond JUST the defensive problem. 2021 is basically his age 28 season now, so he's not young, he's arby eligible after next season I believe and thus won't be all that cheap. He's a nice part of a larger deal if the NL adopts the DH, but with the current working assumption that they won't, he's not a fit. As turbo noted, a Mets deal has to include Dom Smith, IMO.

Given the Brewers system is terrible, when someone mentions a mid-level prospect it actually means someone who would be near the top of the Brewers system . It doesn’t make a lot of sense for the Brewers to deal from both their major league roster AND their minor league club to marginally improve in the short run.

JD Davis is a nice player but if you can’t get him straight up for Hader, that speaks volumes as to what Hader is truly worth to other teams and at that rate the Brewers should just keep him.

Forget the prospect from the Brewers and the Mets keep Oswalt. Oswalt is beyond horrible and would be more of a dfa guy than a help. Davis moves immediately to 1B and Gimenez is the bench along with Pina, Vogelbach, Taylor, Urias (if he doesn't start at SS).

Note that the Duquette proposal is Davis OR Gimenez, not both. I too would be more interested if it was both...

Yeah, if it was both then I think the Brewers probably make that trade. If it's just one then I don't think it's a good match for the Brewers as others have mentioned.

With Dambrowski set to join the Phillies, I could see him being ultra aggressive and making a run at Hader. Bohm is probably off limits but would a Rhys Hoskins + prospects interest anybody? You get a relatively young 1B (turns 28 in March) who finally shores up that position for at least a few years.

Doubt the Phillies would trade someone like Hoskins + prospects for Hader and I wouldn't do it unless the prospects were really good.

You are probably correct if the Phillies weren't hiring a new baseball head but Dombrowski has made such moves in the past.

Dombrowski won't be the GM just the baseball ops guy which is a completely different role. The Phillies current GM will still be the one making trades not Dombrowski.

I don't think the Phillies have a current GM though, and according to this article, "Dombrowski is also expected to inherit the the GM duties":

Which is the same structure that the Brewers have with Stearns in charge.

Just going to put this here.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mlb.com/amp/news/josh-hader-loses-arbitration-case-with-brewers.html
Probably use this as a time-line when any Hader dealings will start to take place. In google search I seen Jan 10th Hader and Suter hadn't come to terms on a deal. And here it is when Hader's arb hearing completed. So a month or 2 away.
One would think this would then lead to the Brewers finally making any sort of FA deals that they aren't immediately comfortable doing now.

There are rumors the Padres still have more trade discussions ongoing. It might be time to bring your best Hader to the Padres trade to the table.

Package Hader and Yelich and go for the entire farm.
