Bowden posted estimates for his top 35 free agents at The Athletic.

Grandal = 3 years, 57 million
Moustakas = 2 years, 24 million
Pomeranz = 2 years, 10 million

Pom and Moose at those numbers are no brainers. I would have to think it over on Grandal.

The difference between Moose and Grandal on those projections is an extra year and 7 million per.

Hmm, they just declined to pay Thames $7.5 million.

My FA shopping list with roughly $47 million off the books currently:

Resign Moose 2/$22 million
Sign Howie Kendrick for first base and fill in for Braun in left during off days. 1/$10 million. Kendrick will need days off too most likely.
Resign Thames 1/$5 million.
Bring back Lyles 2/$8 million.
Bring back Pomeranz 2/$10 million.
Sign Iglesias 2/$12 million

Total: $41 million

Rotation as it sits:

Woodruff
Davies
Lyles
Burnes/Peralta

Lineup:

Cain
Hiura
Yelich
Kendrick
Moose
Braun
Iglesias
Pina
P

Kendrick is a great hitter that can play 1st and fill in for Braun. He doesn’t strike out much and can still be a 20 homer guy while hitting around .300. Thames will get plenty of opportunities during the year. Iglesias is a nice boost from the shortstop position.

I think guys like Nelson and Shaw will also be let go, which will free up more money to be spent on a solid rotation piece. I will actually be shocked if the Brewers don’t add one of the second tier guys like Bumgarner or Wheeler to the rotation. I think they will have room to add a guy like that while still adding some nice complimentary pieces to the offense.

I think Kiley is high in years for grandal, high in years/aav for moustakas, right on for Pomeranz, high in AAV for gio, high in aav/years for lyles.

I also think Kiley is high in AAV for Jose Igelsias- oft mentioned as a Brewers target on this forum.

All of the players listed below can play a passable 3rd base and carried higher OBP than Moustakas' .329 last year. Ranked by a combination of preference weighed versus assumed cost of contract...

Brock Holt .369
Howie Kendrick .395
Asdrubal Cabrera .342 (.404 w/ Was)
Neil Walker .344
Brad Miller .331

Cabrera, Walker, and Miller are admittedly less desirable options but if it allows them to retain Grandal, I can live with them for 1 year. I'd be targeting Holt and Kendrick this offseason in any scenario.

Nice to see a move I was calling for way back on November 3rd come to fruition on the eve of the first full squad workout.

This thread is great for showing what little fans (and Jim Bowden) truly know about the behind the scenes workings of a team. Nearly every name mentioned in this thread signed for way different commitments and numbers than the poster here predicted they would be able to sign them for.

Grandal 3yrs/57 million Actual: 4yr/73 million
3yrs/67.5 million

Moustakas 2yrs/22 million Actual 4yr/64 million
2yrs/24 million
2 yrs/20 million

Pomeranz 2yrs/10 million Actual: 4yr/34 million
3 yrs/18 million

Lyles 2yr/8 million Actual: 2yrs/16 million
3yr/22.5 million

Gonzalez 3yr/18 million Actual: 1yr/5 million

Iglesias 2yr/12 million Actual 1yr/3 million

I think it’s more of a discussion on what people would be comfortable doing for a contract than an actual prediction of what they will get. It only takes one team to throw a ton of money at a guy and basically end up bidding against themselves (Moose and Pomeranz notably). I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t any other team even offering Moose $40+ million. In Pomeranz’ case, I know I was hoping for something like 2/$10 million knowing full well that some team would throw a ton of money at him because of just how dominant he was. It just wasn’t going to be Milwaukee.
