I will never understand why trading within the division is such a big taboo thing.

If it's your best deal and you really like the deal, why wouldn't you do it? If you're worried about helping your division rival, don't you believe they're also helping you if you're doing the deal in the first place?

I think it comes down to not wanting to have the trade blow up in their faces if the guy they trade away helps a rival take a division title or pennant from you......perhaps in multiple seasons.

Having to face a guy 19 games a season can really piss a fan base off if he turns into Yelich or Garrett Cole.

They know that trading for prospect packages is always iffy so why take the chance when you can get a comparable package without the headache of having the player come back to bite you.

Can’t say I blame them too much.

True, but theoretically if we don't trade for Bryant someone else probably will and there's a chance those players end up better than the guys you would have given them, and if you're trading with them at least you have some say in what they're getting. On the flipside, why should the Cubs care? If they're selling and presumably willingly taking a step back in the division for a couple years, why not gut a rival a little so they're not as strong when you're ready to compete again?

Obviously it's a very human element that doesn't really make sense logically and has more to do with optics. So I get it, but I'd hope our GM never closes the door on a possible negotiation just because it "might upset the fans" down the road.

And I have no idea who Al's Cheesy Beef is, but you are correct that that twitter account notes Brewer interest. Doesn't seem anything close to reliable, though?

He was the one predicting Corbin Burnes to the White Sox...

We would be stupid to trade Burnes. He's under control for 3 more season after this season....But if we do trade him, Vaughn has to come back.

Vaughn/Crocket/Thompson for Burnes would be good. ( assuming they view Crocket as a starter)

Burnes should not be dealt unless it is a MASSIVE and unrealistic overpay.

Vaughn has been my target all along for Hader but I doubt they have interest now that they signed Hendriks.

Did Stearns/Arnold get plastered last night watching the Super Bowl, and hungover today? Was hoping we'd get some action here today of some kind, but it seems pretty quiet all across baseball.

So assuming Turner signs elsewhere, I hope we go after Paxton to round out the rotation. MLB trade rumors projects 1 year, $10 million. I’d be comfortable going 2 years, $18 million or somewhere around there.
