Could this be one of those value signings that the Brewers like? Maybe not quite yet, but it seems like at some point he is going to want to sign on with someone... Maybe we can swoop in and get him for a 1 year deal?

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that free agent right-hander Jake Odorizzi would have signed with a team by now if he had received an offer to his liking.

Rosenthal notes that injuries are inevitable in spring training, and COVID-19-related absences also are possible, which may result in an increased demand for Odorizzi this spring. The 30-year-old righty is the highest-profile starting pitcher left on the open market, despite throwing only 13 2/3 frames due to injuries during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign. He was reportedly seeking a three-year contract in the $40-million range this offseason after accepting the Twins’ $17.8 million qualifying offer last year. It’s possible that an unforeseen major injury to a contending team’s rotation could result in a hefty long-term contract for Odorizzi, but there’s also a possibility that he may end up settling for a short-term deal at some point this spring.

Maybe he has gotten several offers to his liking, but is waiting to see if he can top the David Price contract.

It going to be curious to see if the Brewers can get a bargain as spring training is starting.

If he has enough confidence in himself to take a one year prove it deal, I would hope the Brewers would get involved. May take a while longer for him to realize he's not getting 3 years and 45 million coming off his 2020.

I'd absolutely love a 1 year deal.
The longer he goes without a deal in place, the better our chances?
Why not offer him one year 12.5 million?
He slides into our #3, and then let the others battle it out for 4-5.

I think by signing Anderson, Odorizzi isn't on the Brewers radar. Lindblom, Houser, Peralta, and Lauer 4 SPs for last 2.5 spots.

Odorizzi had one great year in 2019 after two pretty average seasons, followed by 4 terrible starts in 2020. He’s also a fly ball pitcher. Hard pass for me unless he’s coming in on a deal at $5 million or less on a one year prove it deal. He doesn’t have the track record of being a great starting pitcher. At least not the last 4 years.

Since 2014 Odorizzi has made the 11th most starts & thrown the 30th most innings in MLB. He has posted a 95 ERA-/100 FIP- over that time frame good for 15.5 runs based WAR (32nd) & 13.3 FIP based WAR (42nd) over the last eight years.

He might not be great, but he is about as solidly average & dependable as it gets.

If the 75 ERA-/74 FIP- he posted in 2019 is somehow indicative of a change in true talent level & not just a one year fluke, he could be a good value signing for whichever club he ends up with in 2021. Especially if it costs less than the 2/20 Taijuan Walker got.

I was wondering if we can get Jake on the cheap. I also think he be a better low end guy than Josh L.

One year deal, sure. I'll take just about anyone on a one year deal. I think he probably gets overrated by posters here as many have lamented trading him for Greinke.

The Greinke trade was forever ago, I don't think anyone here overrates or underrates him because of that any more than they do for Cain or Jeffress.

Odorizzi is your classic 10-12M a year #3 pitcher. Randy Wolf, Kyle Lohse, Matt Garza, etc etc.

signed with Houston
