With Episode 8 just a few days away, speculation is aplenty on a few things including Rey's parentage. Rey being a Skywalker/Kenobi seems to be the most popular guess but I don't think it's that simple. After rewatching the movies in chronological order over the last couple of months, and seeing all the parallels between Ep 4 and Ep 7, I think we are mislead again. My gut is telling me that Leia and Han aren't Ben Solo's birth parents. Thoughts?

Ok, saw it today.....

I enjoyed the film..... I wasn't "blown away". The plot line in the middle of the movie with the casino and whatnot felt very "prequel trilogy" to me. It just felt weird, disjointed, and out of place, and really ended up not mattering, other than giving Finn a plot device to have a hand to hand combat with Captain Phasma.

Mark Hamill was, as advertised, fantastic. I love how his character has evolved from then to now, and his performance (imo of course) was amazing.

I really enjoyed how they went a lot more in depth in talking about the force, and showing that it is more than just lifting things, and making you jump around really really fast during lightsaber fights.

I feel like R2, C3P0, and Chewbacca are really just there now as nods to the fans, and serve minimal purpose. R2 was a plot device, and Chewbacca still flies around the Falcon, but aside from these things, they don't "do" anything. They're almost distracting, like they come on screen "Oh COOOOOOOOL it's C3PO!!" We had those moments in TFA.... I mean, find something more for these characters to do, or stop having them show up to unnecessarily push the nostalgia factor. This is just my opinion of course.... be it right or wrong, that's just how I feel about it.

This was pretty spot on for me as well. It was like they were trying to figure out something 'cool' for Finn to do - and they made up some thing that ultimately didn't really matter much.

I liked the movie a lot - but I came away a little underwhelmed. Perhaps because I had heard a lot of good things about it.

I enjoyed the Luke/Rey stuff a lot. And the story wasn't just a rehash - there were a lot of fresh ideas. Plus some nice surprises.

I really enjoyed the movie and have very few, nitpicky things that I would even bring up. I thought the amount of comedy and banter was well done. The middle section with Finn/Rose was very preachy. Environmental activism, political message on making money from war and also a piece on the Rebellion not being completely noble in needing to buy from the arms dealers to fight.

The lightspeed transport into Snoke's ship was amazing.

Twists and turns and not just a straight forward story. Very well done.

Yeah if they cut out the casino land stuff and just found the Benicio Del Toro character on board or picked him up real quickly it could have made it a crisper two hour movie. I don't necessarily mind that they didn't accomplish their mission as it is nice to see failure every once in a while instead of being predictable but it took too long and didn't need the preaching. Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit though. Anything with Rey/Luke/Kylo kept me intrigued and hope Luke is back next movie as it that is pretty much all they got at this point especially with Carrie Fisher no longer with us and Snoke/Captain Phasma/Admiral Holdo out of the picture.

I could do with the guy who did The Phantom Edit cutting this one, especially the casino stuff. The Rose character was the most pointless in the series, especially if you're not buying the touchy-feely messaging. Yes, even Jar Jar served more purpose.

Luke was awesome. Mark Hamill was great. Enjoyed the Rey / Kylo plot. I did think there was too much set up around Snoke to not explain where he came from, but killing him off was absolutely the best move to move the series forward in a fresh way.

While the lightspeed ship was really, really cool, it should have been Admiral Ackbar piloting. Rather than "Cool, annoying new character is getting killed off and it's still not enough to make me care about her" and "So Ackbar just died, simple as that? Lame!", I would have been legitimately sad.

Unlike TFA, which didn't age well once you got over the nostalgia and noticed all the re-hash, this one should get better with time.

Spoilers ahead (remember we have the spoiler feature available to us).

[Show] Spoiler
I've seen it twice. I was initially pretty disappointed with the movie after the initial critical reviews were calling it the best film since Empire, so my expectations were extremely high. My disappointment was also tied to wanting to resolve questions from TFA, mainly where did Snoke come from and who were Rey's parents, which were left unaddressed or seemed like letdowns.

The casino scenes were pure garbage. As others have said, that just reeked of prequel-level crap.

After pondering it for awhile, I'm ok with Rey being a "nobody." That was part of the magic of the original trilogy, where a nobody (Luke - who later turned out to have a significant bloodline but was otherwise not raised up in the conflict) could join the fight against evil. Luke's greatest fear was realized when Vader revealed that he was Luke's father; likewise, Rey's greatest fear was that her parents were nobodies who had dumped her like trash.

It also looks like Rey had taken the Jedi texts and stashed them aboard the Falcoln. I think Yoda told Luke something to the effect "That library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess", hinting to the fact that he knows Rey already took the books.

I think a lot of people had the same feel about Last Jedi.

The Casino stuff was just not necessary. I liked the Rose character, but what she and Finn did was essentially pointless to the story. It just became weird CGI-fest of stuff that really just didn't matter. I think they just didn't have anything for Finn's character to do - so they made up some plot line for him.

I will add that the failure of Finn and Rose to shut down the beacon thing was actually kind of fun. I mean, it's classic Star Wars - sneak into the big ship and disable the (insert device) and everyone escapes. It was cool that it just failed miserably.

Killing Snoke was cool. The fight with the Red Shirts was great. I think it was good they made Kylo Ren the bad guy for the next movie. No more waffling.

Yeah, Laura Dern's character was annoying - then she gets to make up for it with a great death scene. That was not needed. It should have been Admiral Akbar. Why introduce a new character that you don't like -- why not let one of the other characters we already know take one for the team? It would mean a lot more to the story if we actually liked the character that sacrificed him/herself. As I said, Admiral Akbar would have been perfect. Instead he just got sucked out into space in a perfectly random and generic fashion.

As I said earlier, I still really liked the movie. The Rey/Luke stuff was good. As was the Rey/Kylo stuff.

The Last Jedi was a major letdown for me, although slightly better after a second viewing. I understand the desire for something fresh/new, but if you’re going to destroy the continuity of the saga, you’d better tell a damn good story. Rian didn’t.

It ultimately ended mostly the way I expected, but the bad greatly outweighed the good.

I was happy with the progression of Kylo in the movie… such a great/complex character.

The Rey/Luke scenes were mostly entertaining, sans the weird dinosaur milking (I take it back if that was a moof). Snoke also sort of explained how Rey was able to pick things up so quickly with the force balancing itself out (one of my issues with The Force Awakens).

There were things that were just so bad, though...

The Finn/Rose side plot was the worst. The prequels certainly had their stretches of boredom and annoyance but never in such a lengthy, pointless story.

Leia/Mary Poppins, just face palm. What were they thinking?

The forced humor. Star Wars has always gotten in some one-liners but a prank call? Come on.

It was dumb when Lucas transformed R2 from normal droid to super droid. Why do the same thing with BB-8?

The First Order's incompetence. You always got a sense that the empire was mostly capable, but overconfident. These guys just come across as total nincompoops. How the hell did they come to power?

Admiral Holdo. Along the lines of the Casino story, too preachy and pointless. Did we ever get an explanation why she couldn’t tell anyone what her plan was?

Luke almost killing his nephew in his sleep was completely out of character. If you make the assumption that Snoke played a part in Luke's actions, you've got a dark side user stronger than Sidius on your hands. And to kill him off with such a simple trick? Unreal. Rey and Kylo seeing each other near the end might be a sign that there's more coming from Snoke? Or maybe I'm just scratching for a bit of intrigue from this film.

The story Kylo told about Rey's parents contradicts Rey's flashback in The Force Awakens (did they sell her for booze money and stay on Jakku or leave on a ship?). Was Kylo lying? Hopefully it's JJ's decision to make.

Kylo's story did not contradict Force Awakens, her parents left on a ship on Force Awakens and Kylo said they sold her so they could leve Jakku.

I thought he mentioned they were buried on Jakku. But... if Rey was “sold” why was she not enslaved?

I thought it was OK. Some major issues I have:

[Show] Spoiler
- too many coincidences that turned out to benefit the heroes. One is pushing it, two is too many. For instance, everyone dies in that explosion but Finn and Rose pop up and start running around like nothing happened?

- Too much humor. It felt forced and that's on Rian Johnson. I always felt Lucas was able to insert humor organically. Johnson - not so much.

- Way too much dialog and exposition. It's a crutch. Johnson thinks he needs to explain everything. Give the audience some credit. Does Rose really need to give that little dumb ass line to Finn before the dies, er, passes out (she should have died). She can just share a moment with him. Let people think about it instead of some dumb line of dialog.

- As mentioned above. Leia's Mary Poppins routine. Seriously?

- I hate Finn's character. I don't know what he does other than hang around and attempt to be funny. I have always hated the fact that he was trained since he was a little kid to be essentially a Spartan and he just up and decides to leave one day. I would think he'd be a little more brainwashed than he is. I was hoping he'd reveal more backstory this film to explain that but no dice.

I will say that some of the visuals were incredible. I loved that whole final act on the salt flat with the red on white. Really cool (except why did that doofus have to tell us it was salt? pointless). And some of the shots on the island were great. Also, mark Hamill was awesome.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

I felt like the only reason they mentioned it was salt was because visually it probably reminded people too much of the Battle of Hoth and they felt the need to say "It's totally different because this time the white stuff is SALT instead of SNOW!"

But again, this is unnecessary exposition. You can tell from the cave that it's some kind of crystalline planet. Heck the dogs are made of crystals. If an audience can't figure out its not snow then there's no helping them. Yes this is nit picky but it happened several times in the movie.

I may be a bit more of a casual Star Wars fan than some of you, but for the most part I really enjoyed this movie. Granted I lower my expectations before I go into every one of these movies, so then I can be pleasantly surprised.

What's bothering me? Who the heck is Snoke? I feel like there wasn't enough backstory or character development there to really create the villian. I really liked the idea of him and then all of a sudden he's laying there in pieces. Palpatine was around for a very long time and they really made you hate him.

I kind of got a kick out of the one liners honestly, but again i'm a casual fan. I will say that the 3-D with the ships was really good as well.

No point in being too nitpicky, these movies are going to be made for a very long time (and will make many billions of dollars) so might as well just sit back and enjoy them for what they are. There's a ton worse out there being made right now. I'll give it an 8.5/10. I didn't care for The Force Awakens much, it felt like nothing happened in 3 hours.

There is actually a meta-plot reasoning for not having Ackbar do this, and Rian Johnson explained it. When Holdo and Poe become contentious towards each other, we as the audience are meant to choose sides as it were, with Poe, as he's been established as "the hero". We already like Admiral Ackbar. With Holdo, we have a clear distinction between who we're supposed to choose as our "good guy" and root for. With the Dameron/Holdo dynamic, Johnson was given a chance to have a "twist", where the hero's plan failed, and the hero who we didn't like was the one who was actually right all along.

that was another thing that bothered me....did they even reference that hidden planet at all before the whole getaway plan was revealed? If so I didn't catch it.
