My wife and I will be married 25 years in august.

Anyone have suggestions for a destination in WI for a couple of days at that time?

We've done Door County numerous times, so looking for suggestions that do not include Door County.

Thank in advance!

While it is technically out of WI. head up to Duluth, MN in August. Right across the bridge from Superior, WI. Best time for the weather up there and there is plenty to do and see.

http://www.canoebay.com

I've known a couple of people that loved this place. More on the high end scale of things (cost and feature wise).

Madeline Island in Lake Superior is very much like Door county with all the B&Bs. You have to take a Ferry over from Bayfield. There are also a couple camping spots on the island too. Very friendly biking. Lots of quaint shops, restaurants and attractions (in Bayfield too).

Duluth has really grown in tourism also. A lot of neat spots there.

Lake Geneva is also very nice (Grand Geneva Resort). Or you can go on the west side of the lake and spend a little less for similarly nice places in Delevan. Make sure you take the mail boat delivery tour and watch the college kids deliver the mail to the mansions on the lake by boat. (Spoiler: the boat doesn't stop and wait for the kids)

Hayward, WI has a lot of interesting fishing/lumberjack related activities if rustic is more your style. Rent a cabin on a lake and go for a lumberjack breakfast.

Pepin, WI and Lake City, MN have some nice quiet small-town activities on Lake Pepin. Little House on the Prairie museums also.

i'm not sure how far you want to travel, but Galena IL is the Door County of Illinois. Its about a 3 hour drive from Milwaukee.

Location: Southwest Wisconsin
Southwest Wisconsin has a lot of gems to discover.

The Old Oak Inn in Soldiers Grove is wonderful. They have the best fish fry on Friday and a great Saturday dinner menu.

Mineral Point is also awesome.

Praire du Chien has a lot of interesting things to see and do.

Plus, the apple orchards in Gays Mills are impressive.

We have three cats and two spare bedrooms if you are interested in staying with strangers.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys/gals! Keep them coming!

Btw, we have been to Galena on a couple different occasions, we are from Platteville originally, so that is in our neck of the woods. Also visited Lake Geneva on our 20 year anniversary, but that is a great suggestion, we had a good time there...

I can second Canoe Bay. It's very much high end but they really do a great job of giving you a first class experience.

Stout Island is a very special place as well. Near Birchwood WI. Not sure on costs but guessing it's higher end. http://www.stoutsislandlodge.com

I'm also a big fan of Hayward. Rent a cabin and take in the views of a lake. Plenty of restaurants and activities around the area. You can tailor that trip to any budget, which is nice.

I think there is a really nice spa type place in the Dells, but the name escapes me at this time.

Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva. Unique place and a cool property. Not sure if you were out there at all when you did your 20th.

Congrats on the 25 years!

What are the two of you interested in?

Do you like to sit on a dock by a lake and sip wine? Are you people who want to wander the woods? Are you interested in brewery tours? Wineries?

I'm guessing that you haven't been married 25 years... This sounds like a college date. [wink]
