Wow, Superstore was cancelled.

It was a successor to The Office, with some of the writing staff and crew transitioning from one NBC sitcom to the other. They went 6 seasons strong. Sounds like they were still able to film a proper finale.

Ya, I couldn't believe when I read that either. Also couldn't believe it's been 6 seasons already. I guess that's still a pretty long run.

Couple things I've gotten hooked on lately:

For All Mankind - Halfway through the first season diving into how things at NASA (and in the US, I suppose) might've been different had the Soviets gotten to the moon first. Really interesting thought exercise and I've been enjoying it so far (it doesn't hurt that I'm a NASA/Space enthusiast)

Avatar, The Last Airbender - a mid 2000's Nickelodeon cartoon. Hooked me from the first two episodes and enjoyed it through all 3 seasons.

Superstore is an odd show. When it sticks to what it does it can be really funny. But particularly this season some of the episodes can be sooooooo preachy to be unwatchable. It's flipped the script to where Jonah has become the reasonable, grounded character and everyone else is Jonah.

If you like Superstore, I'd recommend a show called "10 Items or Less."

I found that show to be hilarious, and it's in the same ballpark as The Office and Superstore.

Takes place in a supermarket.

I remember that show! From what I remember reading, the majority of the dialogue was improvised. The script gave the actors a general semblance of a story and they came up with everything else.

Yes, it was very funny.

That's a great show and an even better movie.

Speaking of most-all-improvised, The League is still on Hulu, which I recently re-watched. Another great one and really makes you want to play fantasy football. Having a Shiva and Saco trophy for the winner and loser is a great idea. And the way they handled the Pete character at the end was a really nice touch. Paul Scheer is one of the best improvisers out there.

The League was a lot like Workaholics for me. I really enjoyed it at the beginning and then the end just got to be a bit much for me.

Loved the first couple seasons of Workaholics.
The last 2 or 3 seasons were almost painful to view.
Love the League, start to finish.

I enjoyed the first few seasons of The League, which premiered when I was in my mid-20s. I recently finished the last 2-3 seasons in my mid-30s and it didn’t have the same appeal.

A bunch of my students talk a lot about Riverdale. They think it is really good.

I can't get past the fact it is about Archie and his gang but on a super dark level.

Is this just a teenager type show? Would guys in their 50's like it?

Well, Superstore fans, at least we might get a Bo and Cheyenne spin-off:

This sort of feels like a Joey-type situation, but I’ll give it a shot.

Clarice on CBS is a solid spin off / extension of Silence of the Lambs movie.

Superstore was okay. I watched it, but it was never a show that I had to watch every week when new episodes came out.

Also, I agree with other sentiments on The League. Fantastic,
hilarious show for 4 seasons. After Season 4 it was a sharp slope down.

I'm amazed at shows that can last more than four seasons. Ricky Gervais really knows how to go out on top.

I thought that was more just a British thing, that they liked to do a lot of short-run shows.

Of course the downside is shows like "The Detectorists," which you wish could run a lot more years. Great little series.

They tend to do 3 year contracts in the U.K. which is why you see so many shorter run shows - or major turnover in the cast as the actors are already committed to their next projects. The other side effect is you get some very short seasons after the initial few, it isn’t uncommon to see a 3-5 episode storyline as that is all they can get the cast back for.

Since I mentioned "The Detectorists," "Black Books" is another short-run British series that's worth watching.
