Clarice on CBS is a solid spin off / extension of Silence of the Lambs movie.

I've been trying to stay interested, it's ok, but I can see myself falling off from watching...

I thought that was more just a British thing, that they liked to do a lot of short-run shows.

Of course the downside is shows like "The Detectorists," which you wish could run a lot more years. Great little series.

And then you have “Midsomer Murders” ...

Starting season 4 of Bates Motel.

It's a show that always leaves you wanting more, that is for sure.

Speaking of UK tv series, The Fall is really good, set in Northern Ireland. Then there's a while genre of European crime dramas from Iceland, Norway, Finland....Italy that range from good to outstanding. Trapped is a good example, but we've seen 6 or 7 series during the past year, highly recommend. Yes, there are subtitles, but got used to that very quickly actually. They're cool because where they're set, actors all from in-country, and just a different feel than Holltwood made stuff. No, it's not artsy tv, maybe sounds that way. Just really good crime drama.

I'm glad people are starting to see all the cool stuff other countries are producing. The Fall is really good - first season anyway. I stopped after that. Gomorrah is great (on HBO Max) - Italian crime drama. Top of the Lake from New Zealand was really good. Babylon Berlin is a german series that's excellent.

I enjoyed the last episode of Superstore. I won’t ruin it for anyone who has it DVR’d, but I was pleased it received a proper finale.

Top 10 network sitcom of the 2010s, easily.

So I've made it through the rest of The Wire and half of Breaking Bad (yes, I'm perpetually late to the game on shows). Big fan of Bad, and it's one of those shows (like The Wire) where it feels impossible to turn it off after only an episode or two each night.

Any reason not to jump right into Better Call Saul next? Alternately, I've got a promo deal for HBO right now. Any other HBO shows beyond those I've seen (Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, True Detective, Boardwalk Empire) that are worth my time next?

Thanks, that one wasn't on my radar! I've also heard good things about Six Feet Under, but the concept seems odd. Can anyone vouch for it?

Loved both Six Feet Under & the Leftovers, two of my all time favorite series for sure.

John from Cincinnati is an interesting deep cut that is only one season, but it's David Milch so if you liked his other stuff maybe give it a shot.

Also really enjoyed Painting with John that just finished up. Six episides at 20 minutes each, so its pretty much like hanging out with John Lurie for a couple hours on a tropical island & listening to him tell stories while he paints or has other little adventures.

I will upvote Six Feet Under and watching Better Call Saul once you complete BB as well. Both addictive shows!

"Better Call Saul" is arguably better than "Breaking Bad." (They're both great!)

Don't forget to try to find "El Camino" after you finish "Breaking Bad." It's worth the two-hour run time.

+1

BTW, in the middle of BB rewatch with my wife, since she never saw it.

Update:

My wife and I both gave up on this show. No mention of Hanibal Lector.....EVER! Just Buffalo Bill. (I read someplace that they were not allowed to mention the name Hanibal Lector for copywrite/etc reasons)

The storyline just wasn't engaging, and wasn't that interesting.

Agreed. It was an extremely satisfying finale.

The Falcon and Winter Soldier is off to a really good start. Anthony Mackie is really underrated.

Satisfying but corny. The last 5 minutes was basically a rehash of the last 5 minutes of The Office.

Finally started watching The Wire.

First couple episodes were slow in developing, and I was wondering why the show had so much hype.

Now that I am 8 shows in, I can't stop watching.

Yep, it's that way. I watched season 2 in two or three sittings, all 13 episodes.

Yea, one you watch The Wire and BB you become a TV snob. I will never watch anything on network TV, even the "cable" channels way more miss than hit.

It will be interesting come fall when I imagine a ton of Netflix, Prime, etc. series will have new seasons. Until then, I'll continue down the Euro police drama genre.
