I was mildly annoyed last night during the movie previews that they had after Greg Marcus talked for too long, they had movie theater employees quoting three different "I am" lines to movies.

The second was "I am Sparticus" the third one, they go with, "I am Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die."

That's NOT EVEN THE LINE!

I have Facebook but I don't do anything public other than to sell stuff on the Marketplace. There must be a slight difference between my clock and Facebook's because every now and then I'll post something and it will have a timestamp of '1 minute from now'

Anyone else catch the story about how the Padres changed their Twitter handle to @Madres in honor of Mothers’ Day and then someone else claimed @Padres since it was no longer in use. Twitter eventually straightened it out for them, but I’m sure someone in San Diego had a rough day at the office. [laughing]

I’m not really a Star Wars fan. I enjoyed the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy (to a lesser extent). I might see the new ones if my young son asks to watch them in a few years. That being said, I don’t understand the hate directed towards Episode I.

There are 2 popular reasons. First being Jar Jar Binks. He was created supposedly to attract kids but just came off as absurdly ridiculous. The second was the establishment of the midichlorians. Part of the mystique of the original trilogy was this surreal thing of the force that any Tom Dick or Luke could master. It left the idea that anyone could kick butt and be one with the force with enough training. The midichlorians cheapened that stating only those special enough to have midichlorians could use the force.

Thanks, that makes sense. I can see how Episode I might have been disappointing for someone who grew up with the original trilogy and waited 15 years for another film, but I just don’t buy it’s status as an abomination. I was a teenager when I saw Episode I and still consider it a good movie (not great ... by no means did I imply it is a great movie).

Randomly channel surfing today and came across old episodes of "In Living Color". The first episode I see is the debut of Season 3. Host Keenen Ivory Wayans introduces the new Fly Girl dancer "from the Bronx, NY - Jennifer Lopez". I wouldn't have recognized her. Afterwards, he introduces the newest supporting cast member "standup comic Jamie Foxx". Foxx has an Oscar, Lopez three AMA awards.

Every skit I watched was funny. Maybe cross thread this to "Best TV Shows" thread?

That was a great show. At a time when nice family sitcoms ruled it was nice to see something different. In Living Color and Married With Children were certainly refreshing.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

My son watched that film a thousand times growing up, so I saw it a thousand times as well.

I think the things that stand out (the negative parts) are as follows:

1. The plot.

Naboo it being blockaded by the Trade Federation in preparation for an invasion by said Federation. So, during a big chunk of the film, the Jedi and the Naboo Princess have to escape back to the Galactic Republic capital to let everyone know what is happening on her planet (because, apparently, only messages delivered in person will be effective). But you know how bureaucrats are - they won't listen. So the Jedi and the princess have to head back to Naboo to stop the invasion - making the entire trip worthless.

Meanwhile, we've met Anakin Skywalker and due to his high metaclorins he can drive a speeder really well. What the...!??!

At least the Trade Federation leaders talk as if they are an old man doing mock Chinese accents straight out of a 1940s movie.

The plot is, in all honesty, ludicrous. It's over complicated, and drags on far too often at times.

Just try and explain it to someone. Their eyes will glaze over.

2. Bigger is not better.

George Lucas seems to think that bigger and more equals better. Have a giant undersea monster? How about we add another, bigger giant undersea monster! Want to have a car race around a track? Well, let's do it three times, because the same thing three times is better!

3. Slap stick comedy

Jar Jar steps in poop. Jar Jar sticks his head into the electric stream. Jar Jar falls over and causes bad guys to get destroyed. Jar Jar (insert stupid thing).

Lucas later said he wanted the film to appeal to children - so that's why Jar Jar is in the move - and acts like he does. I just think it's Lucas' inability to understand subtlety.

In reality, it's just dull.

4. Bad director.

George Lucas the director has never been that good at this job. The actors are - for the most part good actors (save for little Anakin) - but in the film they are stiff and wooden. That's the director's (and the script's) fault.

He has a reputation of not really liking to work with actors.

There is not a lot of joy and fun in the movie - unlike the original three.

Part of my picking apart of the film is that I have seen it so many times, and the weaknesses just get magnified.

I also don't want to say I hate the film. It has some good parts. Ewan MacGregor as Obi-Wan is great. And Darth Maul was a great villain (he really saves the film).

The Phantom Menace is - in my opinion - the worst of the Star Wars films. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have its good points. And hey, if you like it, you like it. Nothing wrong with that.

Pat Sajak once hosted an episode of Jeopardy on April 1, 1997.

This random/pointless/dumb thought popped into my head while watching the NBA playoffs this year:

In the 2004 film Troy with Brad Pitt, there is a big epic one-on-one fight scene between Pitt's Achilles and Eric Bana's Hector. When they actually start fighting each other, the FIRST move that Achilles does towards Hector is basically a Euro Step. Ha.

The Amazon Music commercial with the floating lips singing Whitney Houston with no background music is super creepy. I don't know why, but it gives me chills.

I hit mute or turn the channel as soon as I see or hear it. Really hate that commercial.

I watch all Brewers games on Apple TV or iPad. I really hate every half-inning seeing the AWS stolen base commercial. Especially since the baseball broadcasts only use stat cast data once in a while.

The average American consumes 3x more shrimp today than they did in 1980.

I don't eat shrimp, or seafood of any kind, so that means someone out there eats 6X more shrimp since 1980 since I eat none...

There’s a huge difference between farmed and wild caught shrimp. I don’t bother buying farmed. Besides the environmental and ethical issues, they just aren’t very good, and probably not good for you either.
