Chicago, the city, probably not the worst to live in.

Definitely one of the worst places to live. Just terrible, nothing would make me live there.

Huh? Suburbs of Chicago yes. You couldn't pay me enough to live in 95% of the suburbs.

Homer, I mean you no disrespect here. But point #4- most beautiful commute in the country...if you were trying to make me laugh, congratulations it worked.

I fly into O’Hare every year at Christmas time to visit my family in Wisconsin. Every year as we descend into the chicago area I look out the window at dreary misery as far as the eye can see. Inside my head I can hear the Talking Heads playing the song Cities. I can hear David Byrne’s voice full of angst, shouting “I wouldn’t live there IF YOU PAID ME TOOOOOO!!!”

I’ll concede that I too enjoy chicago sports radio when one of their teams has hit the skids. And chicago hot dogs are delicious. Other than that though? Definitely not for me.

I’m not even going to start on the people.

Yes, I must have missed putting suburbs on the second line.

My goodness. I got mixed up in my song titles in my chicago rant. I’m sorry.

The name of the song you need to crank while you hate chicago is called the big country. Blast that one and hate yourself some chicago.

Concrete. Woo. I mean yeah it’s a nice day out. That can happen anywhere.

Man, I am telling you. There are other places.

But if you’re happy there, I’m glad for you. I respect you as a Brewers fan and I certainly wish you nothing but happiness.

Whenever I hear a commercial for Habush Habush and Rottier, I wonder what happened to Davis.

Visiting a city is very different from living in a city. I enjoy visiting NYC. I lived there (technically Hoboken, right across the river) for almost two years, and you would need to pay me a LOT of money to live in NYC. If you're visiting somewhere, then the friendliness of people is probably one of the most important things to you. When you live somewhere, there are lots of other things that factor in the equation.

Having grown up in small-town rural WI... don't get me started on the average person in small-town WI. [smile] Madison is about the only place I could live in WI, maybe Milwaukee.

The people of NYC used to be rude, but after 9/11 and the skyrocketing cost of housing the last 20 years they have been put in their place and are relatively pleasant now. In LA they pleasantly tell you what you want to hear while lying right through their teeth and figuring out how to use you to get what they want. Also, like NYC, the skyrocketing cost of living in coastal CA has put a lot of people in their place. Perhaps the relatively low cost of living in Chicago hasn't put people in their place like NYC and LA.

I guess I’m not geared for cities in general, first of all. I grew up on the east side of Madison and after I graduated I peeled on out of there. It was some good, good riddance.

Now when I go back I throw up three fingers off the wheel and people look at me like I’ve got a third eye. Then I remember where I am. I can’t stand a place where nobody wants to know anybody.
