It bugs me to think of how many terrible sight-related plays on words we're going to encounter this year.
Though in hindsight, we should have expected it. [rolling eyes]

I'm currently in a waiting room and a lady is on her tablet computer with the sound on for all to have to listen to.

I was on a two hour flight recently and a lady let her kid watch Incredibles 2 on a tablet with no headphones.

On Alaska Air they’ve added to the pre-flight briefing that headphones are required for audio on phones and tablets, which I’m grateful for.

The sound of videos, music, and games blaring out of phones just about makes my ears bleed.

Kids screaming and crying on a plane don't bother me but the tablet, phone, or any other device that someone is listening to without headphones makes me want to throw things.

Sometimes kids have to fly and they can't be expected to act like adults. I was on a flight to Europe with a baby who cried the entire trip. The mother seemed, for lack of a better word, ashamed by it. I was across the isle from her, when we made eye contact I always smiled to reassure her I sympathized with her. Some people gave her dirty looks but I felt kids crying is something parents can't always prevent so why make them feel worse?
I don't have the same sympathy for parents who let kids listen to movies or music without headphones.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

agreed.

while we are on the subject of frozen pizzas, Jacks has really taken a tumble in quality over the past couple of years. They are getting smaller and smaller, fewer ingredients, and the amount of cheese on them now is a crime.

Jacks used to be my go-to, but once my supply is gone, I'm done with them.

THANK YOU!!

Glad I am not the only one thinking that. I keep mentioning how they cook weird now. There is always a pool of grease now and the consistency is disturbingly bad. The pizzas can be dramatically different in taste/look each time. They used to be my preference too.

Now for the price point I go with Tombstone. Bigger and better...maybe slightly more a lot of times, but worth it to me. I think it is the same company, but Jacks are just weird now.

On a related note I also think Hot Pockets are garbage now too.

I'm pretty cheap, so I'm just buying Jacks because it's 5 for $10 and as far as getting full for $2 on something that tastes halfway decent, I think it still does the job. I do draw the line at Romas.

That sucks to hear about jacks. I used to get them 4/$10 at the ICO when I lived in Gordon. Easy buy.

With that said, I was amazed by the competitive frozen pizza market at woodmans. Lots of options for about $5 that’d stand up against or even be better than many restaurants.

Jacks used to be my go-to, but once my supply is gone, I'm done with them.

I just buy a package of shredded mixed cheddar cheese ($2 - $2.50 for store brand or Kraft when on sale), keep it in the freezer, and put a handful or two on top of the pizza before I put it in the oven. A package of cheese can be spread over 3-4 pizzas. Putting mixed cheddar on the pizza really adds to the taste.

For me, the pizza is about the sauce and Jack's has by far the best sauce of any cheap frozen pizza, pretty much the only one I can stand. (It's also about the cheese, but per the above, you can change the cheese quantity and type.)

I also have a toaster oven with a pizza setting and do not put it on top of a metal tray.

I add shredded mozzarella to the Jacks, have to now that they got so cheap. I bought a truckload of them at Menards a month ago when they were on sale for $1.88 plus 11% off. Bought 24 of them, so it will take a while to get them gone. I used to agree about the sauce on Jacks, but everything about them has slipped imo. I also do not cook them on a pan, just on the rack because I like a little crispier crust than most people.

I'm telling you, if you want the Cadillac of frozen pizzas at a great price, Lotza Motza is the one. They were just on sale at Festival before the holidays for 5 for $20, that is only $4 each, and they are so gooooooood! Loaded with cheese (hence the name) and ingredients. They have some really cool ones too like "curds and sticks" which is cheese curds and beef sticks. Their Taco pizza is great, and the also have a really spicy one called Hotza Motza, or something like that. I only buy them on sale which is usually $4.99, but when Festival had their sale, I loaded up!!! lol They are big and filling. If I make them for just myself, I get two meals out of them.

Agreed on hot pockets too. Stopped buying them all together a couple years ago. Maybe it's just the adult in my not liking them anymore, but I know Jacks made some changes, and they were for the worse.

Funny you mention Lotza Motza. My parents had them once when the grocery store by them had them on sale. They talked them up as something legendary...so naturally I picked a few up next time I saw them as I am a pretty big pizza person. If you like a disturbing amount of thick cheese on your pizza it is definitely the pizza for you. The toppings have good flavor and they put a good amount on. I usually eat an entire pizza, that pizza I eat 5/8 pieces if I am really hungry. Seems like a classic bar frozen pizza you would get. To me there is way way too much cheese for the pizza size and crust size.

Instead of raising prices it seems most companies went the route of skimping toppings/filling or making it smaller...whatever the food item may be. It is comical how small some stuff is or how much was taken out to reduce costs vs. raising prices.

I grew up on Tombstones and they aren't as good as they used to be, now that you mention it if I was to guess what changed it's that they cut back on the sausage which is the only one I ate as a kid and still usually get. Maybe next time I will get two and move some of the sausage from one and see if it's like old times.

In the 80's in Wisconsin I remember Tombstone, Jack's, and Red Baron being the primary bar pizza oven brands. Now there is a whole aisle of them at the store. I am not a fan of Lotza Motza either, too rich for me.

I think Jack's started at a bar I wanna say in Little Chute. My dad said they'd have a line out the door to get them. Wonder what the original tasted like?

And Tombstone started in Medford. Crazy that Wisconsin is the frozen pizza capital of the world.

EDIT: Think my dad confused Jack's and Tombstone. The latter was served from a bar. Jack's was out of some guys garage

We usually get the lotza motza pizzas when we are at the bar for the night. Really is a great bar pie. There is a bar pie in Fond du lac called Ben's or something that are solid as well.

Knowing John Menard, he probably negotiated a cheaper version of their pizzas to be delivered to his stores and the ones at the grocery store are better. Try putting shredded mixed cheddar on the ones you have left. I think cheddar cheese is a lot more flavorful than mozzarella.

Frozen pizzas are very regional. No such thing as Jack's pizza in LA or NYC, at least not when I was living there.

I've been liking the Wild Mike's brand of frozen pizza. I still like Jack's, although the dough is crazy thin. Tombstone I never liked their crust.
------

Totally unrelated but I'm doing "sourdough starter" for an interpretive presentation this month. We have a homestead at my park, so I do a lot of homestead-type programs, especially since I don't know anything about trees and plants to do anything on those. I was gonna make sourdough pancakes, since I figured you can't do a sourdough program without actually making something. Then my program was moved to a place with no electricity, which of course means making bread, instead. And I'm finding it's very difficult to make a good loaf of sourdough bread.

I also cheated a few days ago and added a small amount of bread yeast to the starter. I figured it wouldn't really make a difference so long as I can still smell the lactose/fermenteds in it.
