When you meet someone that says they are a "huge fan of X team" and you reference a rising prospect for X team that has actually played in the bigs a little and that person has no idea who you are talking about.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Had my annual performance review today. Apparently, someone filed a complaint with HR about me last year... but HR never said anything to me, never took any action, and never even spoke with me about it. I had a meeting with my boss last year where my boss said to me that I answered a question in a manner that was inconsistent with my company's "ways of working', but refused to say anything more specific than that (and apparently it happened well over a month prior to that meeting). After that I met with HR to express my concern about being accused of doing something wrong but not being told what it was, and my HR rep seemed to have no idea what I was talking about.

If someone files a complaint with HR, but HR doesn't take any action on it, should that be included on your performance review? Any HR specialists or attorneys, I'm interested to hear your take.

Should it? No. Can it? Yes, and not the most rare occurrence.

Really it is just poor HR practice. To clarify it could be on your performance review regardless...but it still should have been brought to your attention right away...and even then it is strange why they won't give you details on it.

Curious if it may be something your boss witnessed that he/she didn't personally like but wasn't actually reported to HR, they're just saying it was to shift perceived blame off of themselves and onto the larger, faceless HR entity. Yay office politics.

Were you answering a question about pizza?

I had this happen to me when I was up for a promotion and I had to dispute it, which delayed my promotion. I have also had this happen where I accepted a new position in the company and my former boss filed an HR grievance but I had already accepted the position so my new boss didn't care it also helped that my new boss hated my old boss something about her denying him a promotion and using HR to do so. I only found out about it during my end of year review.

Also office politics suck it is like Game of Thrones on a good day and more like all out cold war on bad days.

Going off of this one, when casual fans try to lecture hardcore fans about things they know little about. Example: Casual baseball fan telling me payroll doesn't help teams win. I will give you one guess what team he likes.

I know I'm just preaching to the choir here, but Rob Manfred really has no idea what he's doing. I hate him so much.

And as a sports nerd type like many here probably are there is a line of also not trying to be know it all, 'correcter', or too preachy to someone who is clearly just not as knowledgeable as nerdy about this stuff. None of it is worth the argument, especially when it's someone who isn't being a bad guy in anyway, he's just a casual observer. When it's someone who is being a know it all jerk type himself while being waaay out of tune with basic knowledge it's tough to not get into it.

I remember one years ago with an acquaintance who is a pretentious snobby know it all type on all things. Sports included. This was around the time we had a guy like Axford or Turnbow who would walk so many guys. Alway love the closer who comes in and walks the first guy a huge chunk of the time. I made some casual comment along the lines of how the hits or any HRs wouldn't be such a big deal if they didn't walk so many guys. Really not a big deal. He gets on some rant about how that doesn't matter, it's better to walk than give meatballs etc. I maybe one comment back about I'm sure if you look up the top closers they don't walk people very often at all. He keeps going and I'm just like yup OK dude. Of course I look it up a day or two later and my assumption was correct. If it's just a casual guy Bsing then yea I wouldn't be annoyed at all, when it's someone acting like he knows everything it's tough to bite your tongue. This was pre smart phones to look everything up too. But, I'm sure plenty have said the same about me and plenty of us here haha.

I got stuck behind someone at Piggly Wiggly who was writing a check in the express lane ... sorta defeats the point, doesn’t it?

It really is somewhat puzzling to me that any point-of-sale retailers still take personal checks in this age of digital money. "I'll take this piece of paper from you and will wait to find out if you actually have the money to pay me in a few days after you're long gone!"

Restaurants stopped years ago. I understand things like the electric company and such, but not retailers.

That really bugs me. There was a good chance that person knew they were going to the store. How difficult is it to write out most of the check before you get there. It is easy enough to do. To write the amount down probably takes no longer than inserting your card in the reader and entering your pin number.

I agree with you 100%. The odds of that person not finding anything in the store they were going to buy thus not needing the check was probably extremely low.

Or better yet, as the checker is checking you out, start writing the check out, minus the total. It isn't rocket science, but the way people act, you'd swear it was...

At walmart you dont even need to fill out any of the check, the machine does it for you and you get it back, yet still seeing people fill it out is so annoying.
