Couple two tree deep cuts...

Long Gone: Minor league baseball intersects with southern small town life in the 1950's with a rare speaking part by Teller.

Bingo Long's Traveling All Stars & Motor Kings: James Earl Jones, Billy Dee Williams & Richard Pryor barnstorm through the country shortly before the breaking of the color barrier.

X-Files The Unnatural: Duchovny directed this episode about a Josh Gibson inspired character who may truly be from out of this world.

Never heard of Long Gone, sounds interesting. Is that an older movie?

I remember seeing the Bingo movie, but that was a LONG time ago...Had to be the 70's.

Think Long Gone was an HBO Original right around the same time as Bull Durham. Kind of has a similar set up with the player/manager (William Petersen of CSI) passing on wisdom to the new prospect (Dermot Mulroney playing a 2B named Weeks).

I second the Long Gone recommendation. been forever since I've seen it, but as I recall it is very true to life as the Cardinals are an evil organization. [laughing]

The Natural. None of them ever stick with me like that one.

2. Bad News Bears
3. The Sandlot

Unpopular opinion, I don't think Major League aged well at all, and I never really like Field of Dreams much.

Ok, since you are posting unpopular opinions, I'll add mine.

I have never liked the Natural. It is always mentioned as one of the best baseball movies of all time. I just never got it I guess.

I even bought it on dvd a couple years ago, thinking that maybe my tastes/viewpoints have changed enough that I might have been missing something all these years.

Nope, gave the dvd to a buddy of mine a few days after watching it.

Loved The Natural but the final shot in the movie ruins it. Best player of all time and his kid throws like a chump.

Eight Men Out is great.

This isn't my favorite, but just to diversify the responses a bit:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kill_the_Umpire
1950 comedy about a guy who reluctantly attends an umpire school but then takes to the work, with hilarious results.

Early in the Miller Park era, the videoboard crew would show a clip from the movie while the umpires for the day/night were being introduced. We got a kick out of the clip and I emailed the team to find out what it was from, then located a DVD copy on Amazon.

I enjoy Major League, but primarily because of its County Stadium scenes. Not really because of its plot.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Major League 3 is much better than major league 2. It’s one of those kind of feel good entertaining movies. Not bad to watch on TBS at 1am

1. Major League
2. Field of Dreams
3. The Sandlot
4. For Love of the Game
5. Mr. Baseball
6. The Rookie
7. 61* (Actually a really good movie)
8. Bull Durham
9. 8 Men Out
10. Rookie of the Year

There hasn't been a good baseball movie released in a long time now. Moneyball was ok. I loved the process stuff, but they made it too much about Pitt's Beane character. I suppose when you have a movie propped up by an A-list actor, you have to do that, though. I totally forgot that Chris Pratt plays Scott Hatteberg in that movie. It was his first big role.

Those that I love that I haven't seen yet:

1) Pride of the Yankees
2) It Happens every Spring (Flubber, but with baseball)
3) Sugar
4) Bang the Drum Slowly
5) 42

I'm not sure if it is in my top three (probably not), but I am surprised Little Big League has no mention. I am a channel changer if there isn't something new on that I want to watch. i'll watch 3or 4 shows at once. If Little Big League is on I usually have it in my rotation .

In no particular order:

Major League, Bull Durham, and The Natural. It's been a long time since I've seen 61* but I remember enjoying it at the time.

Two that I absolutely despise are Field of Dreams and The Sandlot. Field of Dreams in the kind of sentimental drivel that I hate. It's not a baseball story, it's a father/son story. Sort of the same thing with The Sandlot. It's not really a baseball movie it's a coming of age story with a lot of baseball scenes. And I'm very jealous that those kids got to grow up playing baseball every day every summer and I didn't.
