Please use this thread to share your thoughts, links, stories, pictures and anything else on the Brewers' picks on draft day from rounds 6 through 20. Please do not start separate threads to discuss the individual picks.

Please use the in-draft thread to talk about the picks, similar to a game thread.

David Burkhalter - RHP - Ruston HS

Know nothing about the guy, but a little surprised to see another HS player drafted at this point.

Know nothing about him either but I like his size and his weight seems like he could fill out more and add some velocity.

Interesting pick. Athletic, projectable pitcher and overall athlete. We didn't have him ranked in our Draft top 500, but we do have him ranked 256th in the HS class of 2014. Here's his PG profile page w/ a report from last year's National Showcase:

http://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Play ... ?ID=294029

Also, he and his family were the "models" for this 30-second spot we did:

I'm really not trying to plug PG with this, I just think it's cool.

I have nothing on Meyer other than that he's a 4th year junior, so the same as a senior sign that should be one of the more notable contributors in the Helena lineup this summer.

Here's Kole's PG profile. Looking at his stats at Villanova, he seems to be a project guy.

http://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Play ... ?ID=250215

Report from high school:

Jeffrey Kole is a 2011 RHP/OF with a 6'0'', 168 lb. frame from Basking Ridge, NJ who attends Ridge. Lean athletic build, room to fill out some, arm works well on the mound, good arm speed, athletic delivery, tight 11 to 5 curveball, curveball is potential out-pitch, aggressive pitching style, solid hitting approach, smooth swing, line-drive contact, stays back on the ball, hitting tools project more with added strength, loose easy arm in the outfield, arm works, solid actions, feet work, strong student.

Greg McCall may very well been drafted to be Kodi Medeiros personal catcher. Here's a report from the summer of 2011 as one of the top prospects in the Jayhawk League:

15. GREG McCALL, c, Liberal Bee Jays (Texas-Arlington/SO in 2012)
SCOUTING PROFILE: Solid behind plate with good blocking/receiving skills; has above-average arm strength, though needs to quicken transfer/throwing technique; made his biggest strides on the summer at plate, hit just .186-1-9 in 86 AB as college FR, improved to .282-2-21 for Bee Jays; LH bat, showed ability to drive balls to all fields.

Javi Salas, RHP, Senior, University of Miami.

Back in March he threw the second perfect game in Hurricanes history (23rd in Division I history).

The school is going to marry with another school and become the Sporadic Bee Jays.

Conservative would also have been accepted.

#Brewers 6th round pick, Louisiana HS RHP David Burkhalter (@D_M_Burkhalter) says he'll sign w/Crew, forgo UL-Monroe

Ruston's Burkhalter drafted in sixth round of MLB draft
ULM signee drafted by Brewers, says he will forgo college
Written by Tabby Soignier, Monroe (LA) News-Star

ULM will be without at least one signee this upcoming season.

Ruston right handed pitcher David Michael Burkhalter, who signed with ULM this past fall, was selected in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball Draft Friday afternoon by the Milwaukee Brewers and said he will forgo his college career.

"I think I am (going)," Burkhalter said. "Yeah. I’m planning on it."

Burkhalter was at home when he got the call. The 6-3, 190-pound right hander said the Brewers had been in touch and talked about taking him in the fourth round.

When that round came and went, Burkhalter said he went outside to throw a little. He was at the computer, though, when his name was called in the sixth round as the 176th overall pick of the 2014 draft.

"I still haven’t really taken it all in yet," Burkhalter said. "It's definitely going to be crazy in the next week."

As a senior, the Ruston ace led his team to the second round the Class 5A playoffs and won the first game on the mound in the best-of-3 series against Catholic.

The Bearcats lost the final two games, though, to end the season. Burkhalter finished the year 7-3 with a 0.70 ERA. The righty gave up seven earned runs in 70 innings pitched and struck out 104 batters.

We recently ranked the Brewers 10th round pick, Javier Salas, as the 7th best college senior:

Here's his player profile (keep in mind the scouting report on there is from when he was a high school underclassman):

More this AM...

“The command at his age is just incredible,” Ruston head coach Toby White said. “He has command of three pitches, and that’s really what sets him apart. There’s quite a few guys that can throw in the 88 to 90 (mph) range, but he just has such good command of all his pitches.”

White said Burkhalter topped out at 91 mph this past season and consistently stayed around 88. The right hander gave up seven earned runs in 70 innings pitched and struck out 104 batters in his senior season.

“He’s such a great young man,” White said. “His work ethic, his attitude, his humbleness — just very good traits that’s going to serve him well down the road in not just baseball, but in everything he does. He has such a good head on his shoulders. He knows he has a lot to learn, and he wants to learn and wants to get better.”
