My mock draft. Don't claim to be an expert. Pretty much ignored all the speculation of "this team is looking at so-and-so player" because that stuff didn't seem to be very accurate last year. Pretty much ignored needs at the MLB level but did consider minor league depth/needs when projecting picks.

I still came up with Larnach to the Brewers at #21. He's not a personal favorite of mine or anything like that. I just think he's the type of player that Stearns would like because the bat seems really solid.

Please forgive any typos, I did this pretty quick and did no proof-reading.

I don't have a clue what they'll do in the first round, but I hope it's Noah Naylor. Athletic LH power at C or 3B doesn't grow on trees. I'm reading that Larnach has a lack of speed, like Beer, and an average arm - thus some are projecting him to LF. If that's the case, might as well draft Beer. No one else really stands out, so if not Naylor I hope they have a deal with someone that can come in at least $600K or more under slot.

Some other guys I like (based on the little I know about them)

#60 - Lyon Richardson, RHP, HS (relatively new to pitching, has low mileage on arm); Gunnar Hoglund, RHP, HS; Aaron Hernandez, RHP, TA&M-CC

#73 - Jonathan Stiever, RHP, Indiana; Braydon Fisher, RHP, HS; Kyle Bradish, RHP, New Mexico St.

#125 - Richard Palacios, SS, Towson; Ford Proctor, SS, Rice; Andrew Moritz, OF, UNC-Greensboro

#155 - Austin Cox, LHP, Mercer; Ryan Feltner, RHP, Ohio State; Hugh Smith, RHP, Whitworth

Unfortunately it doesn't look like this draft has much for guys who can stick at SS, at least where the Brewers are picking.

I think the Brewers end up with a High School position player with the first selection (although they may also go underslot with the first selection in order to afford some high school players in subsequent picks).

I will guess someone from this group:
OF Connor Scott, 1B Triston Casas, SS Brice Turang, OF Jordyn Adams, C Noah Naylor, OF Nick Schnell, 2B Xavier Edwards, OF Mike Siani

I would be all for Brice Turang at #21. I think he’s going to have success in professional baseball.

Plus, he’s already a natural at rocking the Brewers gear [smile] ...

I really like Osiris Johnson, high schooler out in California. Can pick it in the dirt and also happens to be one of the youngest players in the draft. Doesn't turn 18 until November, I think. Would be more than fine with him at 60 or 73.

Also, Cadyn Grenier of Oregon State was good enough to push Nick Madrigal to 2B full time and he can hit a little, too. I'd be happy with him at 60 or 73 as well.

Brewers connected to 6’-5” LHP Brandon Williamson a JUCO player at NIACC.

Connection is mentioned in this article, NIACC's Willamson expected to go early in MLB Draft.

Williamson is ranked the #90 draft prospect by MLB.com and #168 by Baseball America.

I really like Stiever from Indiana with the third pick if he's there. Local kid from Cedarburg and a little small for your right handed prototype starter but a super athlete. Still figuring things out and getting experience. Think he could really be a steal in this draft.

I am also a huge fan of Matt Mercer from Oregon. He took a step back this spring after a great summer in the Cape Cod League. Big fastball, solid changeup. Been said his breaking pitch has fallen back this year.

Interesting to see what happens with some of the guys that the Brewers picked in the 2015 draft with no real expectations that they would sign
Hooper from UCLA
Beck from Stanford
Kingham from Texas
Indian from Florida will be gone early in the first.

I'm looking for the obvious college bat, middle of the field player for the Brewers, and I can't find him.

This, of course, is because I have no idea who will be available for them when they pick, but that's the profile that seems to match their philosophy. I'll break a little bit - hitter, middle of the field, but a high schooler ....

Milwaukee selects Brice Turang, SS, Santiago HS, CA

I really like the report on Grayson Rodriguez, high school RHP linked to us in Jim Callis's latest mock. Power fastball with an "array of promising secondary pitches" and he's 6'5"

I have a feeling that the Brewers are gonna pick someone that no one has predicted so far.

Here is my final aggregate draft prospect ranking. This includes data from 13 different sources, both public and behind paywall, including Perfect Game, Baseball America, Prep Baseball Report, MLB Pipeline and more. I do not include the individual rankings due to the paywalls. Only one mock draft is used, each of the other 12 are pure rankings. For the Perfect Game and Baseball America lists, I stopped at 200 in order not to distort the top end of the rankings.

This list is updated through this morning. "High Rank" refers to the highest ranking given to the player by any of the 13 sources.

Brewers picks are bolded.

The final Perfect Game Mock Draft is out and free to the public.

It has the Brewers taking Oregon State OF Trevor Larnach. I wouldn't hate the pick, but I wouldn't love it either. I haven't seen enough of him to know (not to mention I'm not a scout anyway), and colbyjack did say some good things about him earlier in the thread.

My concern is that he is destined to be a corner outfielder (or 1B) that is likely to be below average defensively. I also worry about his likelihood to carry a high strikeout rate. This is obviously just a guess on my part, but I could see Larnach's ceiling be something along the lines of a left handed hitting version of Domingo Santana. That isn't meant to be a knock on either player, I just don't know if that is the type of profile the Brewers are looking to add to the system.

Larnach did have elbow surgery a few years ago, so maybe the Brewers can prove that is the new market inefficiency! [smile]

Anyway, looking forward to the draft tonight!

There hasn't been a ton of buzz surrounding the Brewers being tied to various players this year, but here is one connection...

The Brewers hosted their pre-draft workout at Miller Park last Thursday. One top draft prospect in attendance was Pennsylvania HS outfielder Mike Siani.

Penn Charter's Mike Siani calmly awaits Major League Baseball draft

Siani has primarily been ranked in the #35-55 range among various outlets providing draft coverage.

On the Fangraphs "The Draft Episode" Podcast they mentioned that Mike Siani was the only player they purposely didn't include in their mock draft because they expect him to the be a very tough signing. Sounds like his "number" to forego his commitment to Virginia is quite high, so I would assume if the Brewers were seriously interested in him they would have to either take him with their first pick or else go significantly under-slot with their first pick and take him at one of their next two selections.

If it's the same as last year, 4 minutes between picks in the first round and then 1 minute for rounds 2-10.

The last BA mock draft has the Brewers taking Swaggerty.

I believe it is four minutes allotted for teams to make each pick in the first round (picks 1-30), and just one minute per team for each pick after that (picks 31-78). I am not sure how well they stick to those time frames, but it does always seem to keep up at a fairly good pace.

Swaggerty? That’s a surprise. I think most mocks up to this point had him getting picked in the top 15, if not top 10.
